We met our room mates last night, they are staying one night short of us, so it’s a good job we like them! They are 2 older guys from Columbia..who have just finished Uni in Chicago! They are very amusing, and loved hearing about our plans and tried convincing us that we should go to Columbia..we think not!!
We were up bright and early this am, and out early enough to still see the clear blue skies! It was nippy, but refreshing! We walked through Central Park, heading towards Times Square! We couldn’t believe how big it was! It’s not like your average city park, instead it’s like the size of a small city! Was a lovely walk though, even if we did feel a little out of place amongst the hundreds of runners!!
We made it through, and wondered through the theatre district and towards Times Square. I kept forgetting that we were in New York, and kept thinking of things that happened here, e.g. tv programmes, films etc! Times Square was very busy but we mooched through. We found the M&M store, and couldn’t help but have another look, even though it was virtually the same as the one in Vegas!
We continued to wonder through the streets, something that we did a lot of today, and found ourselves by Penn station again..and we couldn’t pass without paying a visit to Tim Hortons!!
The next stop was the Empire State Building where we went to the top to the observation level. The views were pretty amazing, and we were amazed to see just how built up the city was! A lot of the buildings were quite old, compared with some places we have visited! We could just make out the Statue of Liberty, she’s very tiny!
As we were sort of close, we decided to visit the United Nations building, the Chrysler building and the Grand Central terminal (from Madagascar!). We found ourselves in the suburbs when visiting the United Nations building and we passed a few schools, which were just as we imagined American schools to be.
By this point it was getting quite dark so we started to make our way back. We grabbed some food then headed for the subway! Yet again we got confused and ended up passing our station, but sneakily managed to get back without paying for another ticket! Hehe!
Had a long day, lots of walking and looking involved, and we’re now chilling watching the Yankees about to win the world series in baseball!
We both like what we have seen so far and that was just a small part of it!
