We set off a bit earlier today to try and find Griffith Park. We had heard it was nice there and lots to see and do so we set off with high hopes! It was dark and cloudy out but we ploughed on but it soon started to drizzle! We had packed beach stuff in our bags as we had intended to go down to Santa Monica from the park, but didn’t pack any waterproofs! The further we got, the wetter we got and the more it rained! We found a barbers and Mark finally had his hair cut..he no longer looks like a grizzly bear! The barber took ages perfecting it , just long enough for the rain to stop for a bit, he mentioned how rain is rare here. We found the park, was much further than we thought. There didn’t seem to be much to it so we kept going further thinking it would be around the corner but to no avail! But this point it was torrential rain and we took shelter under a tree! Needless to say, we gave up on find ing th rest of the park and headed back to the hostel so that we could dry off!
We then caught the bus down to Santa Monica in the hope that we would find some better weather! The bus took about an hour so we were hopeful, but it continued to rain! There was a lovely shopping area, which was all lit up and pretty at night! The beach was huge and would have been lovely had it not been raining! We walked along the pier and then along the beach. We made it up to Venice beach, but it was rough and run down so we headed straight back to Santa Monica! We found an English shop which sold English food..real food!! They had proper chocolate, squash, gravy, cereal, tea, biscuits!! Was very exciting, but obviously everything was expensive so we just settled on some chocolate to share! The lady then informed us that there was an English pub next door..so we couldn’t resist looking! We decided to treat ourselves and had dinner there! Shepherds pie went down a treat followed by proper chocolate!! :) felt just at home with the weather too!
It was late by the time we were done so we caught the bus back to Hollywood. Just outside the hostel there was more filming, we think that this may have been for a tv show about a hostel! Noone famous that we could see though!
A very miserable day, and very unlike Los Angeles! You can tell that they don’t have rain much as the pavements were really slippy and cars found it difficult to grip properly!
