Spent all day on the bus! Wasn’t as comfy this time but we managed! We slept most of the way from Winnipeg to Regina where we arrived at 6am! Clear blue skies again. The landscape most of the way was pretty much the same as Winnipeg, flat and boring! It seems fairly dull around the midlands area. Saskatchewan is a very rural state! Dad (Marks) might like it as there’s lots of farmland and some cows!! The biggest city in Saskatchewan is only 200,00 – we think (was eavesdropping on the coach!). The next is around 30,000 – its called Moosejaw – what a cool name!! hehe! It seems that the cities tend to be quite small. Regina didn’t seem that nice, and others on the coach shared this opinion!
About 50km from Calgary you could see the outline of the Rockies. Calgary seems nice and clean like Toronto, just not as big, although there is a lot of development happening. Population is about 1 million – similar to Birmingham! We thought the Rockies would be more prominent in the distance than what they are!
Made it to Calgary by 5.30pm and got a taxi to the hostel - only the driver went West instead of East and claimed he couldn’t get to the hostel because of the train line! hmmmm!! Ended up walking about 5/6 blocks to the hostel! Sharing a dorm with two Austrian guys who are taking a similar route to us but a few days ahead of us! Would be wierd if we ended up in same hostel again further along route!
We went for a walk in the evening but was scary! Lots of homeless people around and lots of police! Reassuring but not in a way!! Needless to say..it was only a short walk!
The coach drivers here seem to drive for hours on end! On driver took us for 15 hours before he swapped with another driver!
The exchange rate has moved – in our favour!! We can afford food now!! woo hoo!
