The final two days are here!! Today was a day filled of last minute errands to get ready for the voyage on Saturday! After waking up at NOON, which I have done all month long, I went out to the bank, the airport, did some shopping and figured out a lot of details that I would be leaving behind. The visit to the bank was interesting. After asking the bank tellers to give me over $500 in singles and $5 bills and having her look at me weird, she finally asked me what I was doing with this type of money. After explaining my new job for the next semester, we ended up talking about the trip, the voyage and the experience for the next 25 minutes, as she counted, counted and recounted all of the money. Every time I tell someone out of the blue what I am about to do, I get the biggest smile from them and the biggest compliment on how much this experience is going to be a remarkable one and a once in a lifetime opportunity. And you know what, they are right… when am I going to have this opportunity again to TRAVEL the world to 12 countries, work my job and do what I love in life!More and more, this was the right decision to make, even though some have viewed it as a disturbance in their lives… but I am over that for sure and only can make fun of that statement from now until I die!
After I started cleaning out my bank accounts and getting my financial situation organized, I headed out to the airport to pick up some currency from the countries I a going to visit.I did not want to do this on Saturday morning at 6 AM, being that I am going to be nervous and tired.Today I received currency in Brazil, Malaysia, India, China and Japan.Having some "seed" money for cabs, internet café's, shopping will be helpful until I can find some ATMS out there. As far as the other countries go, many of them do like some American money, as long as it is singles or $5 bills!Lets see how well that goes over in Africa or Vietnam. Take a look at the photo album as there are some pictures of the different currencies I received today.
As far as last minute shopping goes, I think I finally have everything I could think of to buy and bring with me.I finally bought a world map to post on my cabin wall, bought season one of Heroes (Thanks Jon for getting me hooked) and bought some more USB drives to save pictures on them.It will be excited to plot my entire trip on the map and then have the staff and the students sign the map at the end of the trip. After a long day of handling a lot of logistics, I am going to organize my job search files and get ready for the big old job search before I head out.Keep in touch while I am away.Soon there will be updated pictures of the Bahamas and Puerto Rico!!Get ready for the adventure to begin.Go New York Giants.I hope we have time off of training in the Bahamas on Sunday to drop by somewhere to watch the game.
Talk to you soon.
