Bangkok, Thailand
1.11.06
Arrived in Bangkok a bustling noisy city with a haze hanging over it. The locals all seem to be wearing yellow (I love the King) T shirts as they do actually love him. He was crowned when he was 18 and this year is his 60th anniversary and he was born on a Monday and Monday is yellow! We have a few rides in tuk-tuk's - scooters for 3 people basically - watch out for the U turns. Drivers wanted to take us to silk or gem shops & to see all the Buddahs so we just went with it, big buddah, lucky buddah, reclining buddah etc etc. We did learn how to pray at a temple though.
Interesting walk back to the hotel pavement sellers have lovely smelling food, necklaces, false teeth - needless to say I didn't buy any!
Staying in old quarter (backpackers area) so some great local markets and near the Grand Palace. Traffic lights are great as they have the second counting down till they change (imagine that in London!)
Plenty of lady boys serving in restaurants and in shops - very weird.
