We had a pleasant 6 hour bus journey from siem reap to PP, feels like nothing here but i would never consider doing it at home to travel around.
PP was a lot busier then siem reap, the guesthouse we stayed in was always full of people chatting away and eating.
We went to the Killing Fields which was very sad and to think this all happened not long ago was very strange. We hired a guide who explained everything in great detail it was awful to think what went on and happened there, he showed us the mass graves that people were put in, the tree stumps where children and babies heads were smashed against to kill them, a mass grave where they found children and babies headless bodies. was very chilling walking round the place. there is also a kind of monument where they house hundreds of the skulls and the actual clothes that were found.
We then went to the S21 prison camp where they held the prisoners before taking them to the killing fields. This was previously used as a school and was 4 big massive buildings. In the rooms they had the actual metal beds that people were totured on and pictures of it and also the weapons that they used to torture people. In other rooms they had tiny small cells, hundreds of pictures of the prisoners some very small children, some people were smiling in the picture. As they were told they were going to a place for a job but really they were going to be taken the fields to be brutually killed. After that we noticed while driving round in the tuk tuk that there are not many older people in cambodia, as most of them had been killed.
also visited the Royal Palace which was very impressive. Unfortunatly your arms have to be covered and they wouldnt allow us to wear our shawls so we had to put our "same same...but different" tshirts on that we had bought as a joke haha.
I love pictures of monks and ive been trying to get sneaky pics of them....in the royal palace there were 4 monks who started chatting to us....bearing in mind that monks are not meant to have much communication with women i was quite surprised. Anyway they started asking for email addresses etc and wanted there pic taken with us! haha. Bit ironic when ive been trying to get sneaky pics of them. Just a shame we had our "same same...but different" t shirts on! It made my day the monks asking or our pic to be taken with them haha. now my facination with monks is over.
We got our vietnamese visa and booked our coach and off we went to Vietnam overland.
