Well you will all be pleased to know that we have left Bangkok and so are we.
They have an election on at the minute and everywhere has a ban on serving alcohol till Monday morning, which is a shame because Mel and Christina had a fruit juice and it left them not feeling too well yesterday, which proves that drinking beer is good for you!!!!!
We took the 90 minute train journey North to the old capital city of Ayutthaya our home for the next 3 nights. This was the capital of Thailand a long time ago and has a lot of Khmer style temples. The guest house is great and set in a leafy courtyard, our bungalow has really comfy beds although it is really humid and the mosquitos here are a real problem they are everywhere!!!
We had a real stroke of luck last night as they have a big festival on here at the minute to re enact the battles that the Thais had with Burma. We went along and were treated to a wonderful light and sound show in the grounds of one of the temples. The place was packed as it was Saturday evening and there was a real buzz about the place, we took our place on the grandstand that had been erected (with real scaffolding, and not bamboo!!!!) The show lasted about 80 minutes and they recreated battles with elephants and horses in full battle gear and sword fights, all set to excellent lighting.
At one point the elephants were fighting and flipping soldiers into the moat and fireworks were going off all around us as well as explosions it was a really action packed 80 minutes and so much fun even when it started to rain 10 minutes from the end.
You lucky people could even get a secong blog today as we have hired a Tuk Tuk driver to show us the sights of Ayutthaya for 4 hours this afternoon. Will be in touch soon and will try and load up some photos as well.
Lots of Love
M & M
