G'Day Guys
I hope you haven't missed the blogs too much the last few days we have been internet free so I shall update you on our last few days now.
We arrived in Airlie Beach on Saturday morning at 6.15am after our overnight bus from Hervey Bay. We spent the day around the town catching up with jobs and visiting the market that they have on weekends. We spent a liitle time on the beach and watched the camels, yes they had camel rides but they were so busy we didn't get a chance. We caved in and had a second Didgeridoo lesson in a shop and ended up walking away with $600 worth of bloodwood didge that is getting custom painted with our travels around Oz by an aboriginal artist, which will be cool. It was designed by us to incorporate some of the things that we have enjoyed while here. The lesson went well and I even managed to start playing notes and tunes but Mel made it sound like a trumpet, I think a little more practice required!!!!!
On Sunday it was up again at 6am to make our connection for our day trip out to the Whitsunday Islands. The sea was calm and within the hour the skipper stopped as we had whales by the boat, a Mum and her calf breaching and playing around it was a fantastic sight to see especially the sound when she hit the water. The calf could not stop jumping out of the water, it was a great 15 minutes and a real added bonus.
From here we made our way to Hook Point to snorkel on the reef for an hour, we were going to dive but we both have a cold at the minute so were unable to. Saying that we were glad that we didn't as the reef was good but not a patch on the ones in Fiji. We decided to wear stinger suits to protect us from the jellfish that are around this time of year, when I pointed one out to Mel she was like a human speedboat and shot off in the other direction. There was also a really strong current that was tough to swim against and we were among a few that needed a helping hand getting back to the boat!!!!
Once back on board it was a short journey to our next stop of Whitsunday Isalnd and a bush walk to take in the views of Whitehaven Beach from a lookout it was stunning and so colourful with the turquoise of the sea and the white sand with the lush green trees around. It was just like you see on the postcard and worth the walk. We had time to fit in a couple of hours on Whitehaven Beach as well before having to head back to the mainland. It was such a good day and we enjoyed every minute of it.
Today we left Airlie Beach at 9am on the bus and have just arrived in Cairns its now 9pm so a good 12 hours on the bus, we are both exhausted but are ready to start fresh tomorrow and hopefully sort out a few trips to various sights.
As soon as I can I will post some of the ace pictures that we have from Brisbane onwards so keep looking!!!
Lots of Love
M & M
