This wandering monkey
Almost a year ago I had vague plans to \'go to Mongolia and wander around a bit\'.
It was also around this time that Peter, a college friend, got the news from Project Trust that he was in fact going to China for a year, and not Morocco as he had been planning and saving for since Godknowswhen.
\'Dude, I\'ll only be like three hundred miles away from you!\', says he.
\'Dude, I\'ll walk to China and see you!\', says I.
Sigh.
Luckily this bout of unrealism was quelled when I looked at an atlas and saw a big yellow bit between our respective destinies. Oh. The Gobi Desert. Right, new plan.
It\'s now a week before I fly to Beijing. I\'ve had about fifty different jobs, most of which have earnt me nothing but odium in the eyes of the general populace. I\'ve also had some (very) generous donations from family members, and I\'m about ready to go.
I\'ve had lots of advice from people like Rae, who is leaving for Nepal the same day as i go to China. Check out her journal at www.statraveljournals.com/roamingrae
Hey, Nepal\'s only like five hundred miles away from where I\'m going; I could blatantly walk...
