After NY we took an 8 hour train journey up to Canada. All was going well until we reached the Canadian border. US customs came on board to check everyone's ID's and one of the women on the train was on their suspicious list. They took her and her family off and interrogated them all while they also went through their luggage. About an hour and a half later they were allowed to re-board and we were on our way again. 5 minutes down the track on the Canadian side the Canadian customs came on and done exactly the same with the same family! About another hour and a half later we were allowed to get off the train, later we were told we could have got off on the American side and walked 10 minutes over the bridge, was not impressed!
Anyway we finally reached our hostel and got checked in. The hostel was more like a hotel so for about 9 quid we got a private room. The guy who ran it, Patrick is an absolute legend, really helpful and funny. That night we went for a meal and then just chilled in the hostel with Patrick.
The next day we went down to see what all the fuss is about with the falls. I didn't really expect them to be as impressive as they were, especially the Canadian falls.
After grabbing a few photies we had a walk around Niagara itself to see what it had. The place is really touristy and is pretty much Blackpool but on the other side of the world, it is smart though. It's full of casinos, amusements and restaurants. It even has a guiness book of records place where I got a photo of me in the worlds tallest mans chair and one of me as the fattest man in the world!
Later on that day we went back to the falls to do the maid of the mist. On the boat we got given a poncho each to wear, I thought the Americans and Canadians were a bunch of little girls for wearing these but you really do get soaked! I couldn't see a damn thing out of my glasses, everytime I dried them they just got soaked again within a couple of seconds! You don't really appreciate how big the falls are until you are on the boat right next to it. The sound of the water falling is deafening and you can feel the force of the water, no wonder not many people survive going over it, nutters!
We found out that they were having fireworks over the falls that night so we got some alcohol and headed back to the hostel for a while. We ended up sat outside with 2 Germans called Tia and Toby getting drunk while Toby sat there and got stoned. Toby was all about his weed even the beer he was drinking had pot residue in it!
We met up with a Japanese guy called Shromi or Shrosi or Sushi or something, he couldn't really speak a word of English but he still seemed quite cool. We went down to the Falls to watch the fireworks but me and Jodie as always were late! Did get to watch half of it though so it wasn't too bad.
After the fireworks had finished we headed back to the hostel for more beers. We spent the rest of the night getting drunk with 2 Germans, 2 Australians, a Belgian, a Canadian, a Japanese guy and an American. We ended up stumbling up to bed in the early hours of the morning quite wasted, good times!
Next morning we thought we would head to the Jet boats. We weren't too sure how to get there so we looked at the map and decided to walk it as it didn't look that far away. 15 miles and hours later we finally arrived, safe to say Jodie wasn't in the best of moods with me for suggesting to walk it! The Jet boats were fully worth the walk though, it cost us 60 dollars for an hour of racing up the river through grade 5 rapids at 55 mph. The captain knew the river so well, he knew which waves to hit to soak everyone on board and when to pull a 360. The force of the waves hitting you was incredible, felt like a wall of water was landing on our head each time he hit a big wave. When it had finished and we were off the boat we felt about a foot shorter cos of the force of the waves landing on us!
Jodie was in charge of getting us back to the hostel, a nice comfortable 15 minute bus journey later and we were back by our hostel, don't know why I didn't think of that for the way down, I think Jodie will now be in charge of transport!
That night we ended up staying up with Patrick and 2 Americans called Brandon and Tina. As Brandon got more drunk he started talking more s*** rangeing from how he 'owned' the town to him street racing with the cops!
Tina was nice though and we found out that she was a travel agent in Vegas so she is going to give us the info for all the cheap and free things to do when we get there.
Next day we headed to Toronto on the Greyhound. Didn't really expect to find a hostel or owner that was as nice as the ACBB and Patrick but I never for one minute expected the hell hole that awaited us!
