We are so gutted to be leaving Fiji but it is only a 3 hour flight to Auckland so at least we will be in a new country soon. Once the flight had landed we had no idea how to get from the airport to our hostel as the website we booked it on never really gave us any directions. Lucky enough though we found a shuttle that took us straight from the airport to the door of our hostel. We are staying in a hostel that is a bit more pricy as they have a job centre so hopefully it will make it a bit easier for us to look for a job, We also have no idea what we have to do to get our tax number so we thought that with the hostel having a job centre then they will be able to help us with that. When we reached the hostel we were really annoyed with what it was like. The so called job center was basically a notice board that had 3 or 4 websites pinned up that you can find your own job (ones we already knew anyway) and we really needed wifi as we hadn't had any in Fiji and had nothing planned for the North Island, the wifi was advertised as free but actually cost about 5 pound an hour! We had so much to plan in Auckland that for the first 2 days we didn't actually get out much. We had a quick walk round town but we had to get the internet for 24 hours and just looked into every place to go on the north island and into hostels. We also had to look into tax numbers and realised that in order to get one we have to already have a job lined up and an address for 2 weeks so they can send it to us. We also spent a while looking for jobs but most of the jobs seemed to be in Nelson or in Wellington so we decided to travel the north island for the next 2 weeks odd and then look into getting work when we reach Wellington.
After a couple of days we had finally organised what we were planning on doing in the north island and had booked all the tours that we wanted to do so that left us with 1 day to explore Auckland. We are flying to Sydney from Auckland at the end of January so we have already decided that we are going to spend a couple of days here on the way back to look around. On our only real day to explore we still needed to do a few things. Jodie hasn't got any kind of cold weather clothes and as New Zealand's winter weather has dragged on it still isn't very hot here (not as bad as back home though!) We spent most of the afternoon clothes shopping and I had to get my mop cut so we found a barber training shop and got it done for free, first time I have ever had my hair cut off a guy from Krysghstan! After we had got everything we needed we headed down to the harbour to see why the city is called the 'city of sails'. There really isn't much down there and there is nothing different from any other city. We could see the Sky tower from our room window so we didn't bother having a look around there but apart from that and the harbour we don't think there is really much to do here but I suppose we will see when we return.
We are heading up to a place called Whitianga next which is in the Coromandel Peninsular up north. We haven't even scraped the surface of Auckland and got a severe case of cabin fever so we are looking forward to the Peninsular and actually getting outside! We have a 5 hour bus journey with a company called NakedBus (best name ever!) and it even drops us outside our hostel door!
