After we have checked out of our hotel we get picked up by Dani's dad Bob. Me, Jodie, Paul and Sue are going to stay with him for the rest of the week in Pearl City. His house is quite nice and open to the elements but is quite far out from pretty much anything so we have to rely on Bob to give us lifts. After we had all settled in and got our stuff put away we said our goodbyes to Liam and Dani as they were heading back to Rochester and went down to the Pearl City shopping mall with Bob for dinner. We all had a Chinese then had a look around the mall. Later that night when we had returned Jodie and Sue skyped Jessica and found out that the idiots in the Isle of Man bank messed up a simple name change and changed Jodie's surname instead of Jessica's. Me and Jodie spent most of the night up ringing the bank and waiting for a call back from them to let us know what was going on.
Next day we were both shattered, the IOM bank didn't keep to their promise and never got in touch with us. Bob was out most of the day helping his daughter, Miki find an apartment so as we were shattered anyway we just decided to stay in. It was Sue's birthday so Bob and his family treated us all to a few pizza's and a chocolate cake That night we got in touch with the bank again and got told that the problem would be sorted that day and it would have no lasting problems for Jodie, typical of a bank though, they lied and they hadn't done anything to fix the problem.
We decided next morning that due to us having to phone the bank late at night and that we would probably be loud as we were complaining that we would go back down to Waikiki and book a hotel room for the last few nights. We set off from Bob's mid day and got all checked in and then headed out again to meet everyone. We met Miki and her two boys, Kenan and Zach after they had finished school and work and all went for a meal. Everyone else headed back to Bob's after we had eaten so me and Jodie went back to the hotel. As the UK is 11 hours in front of us we went down to the lobby to use their internet so we could ring the bank. They have to be the most useless bunch of b******s I have ever seen anyone deal with in my life, it took us over 2 hours just to speak to a manager who then told us that Jodie's card will be cancelled and totally contradicted what his staff told us. Anyway we got in touch with my Mum and got everything moved out of the Isle of Man bank and we put in a complaint against two of their staff and the bank itself, how they can mess up such a simple thing so badly is baffling.
As we had been up till about 3 in the morning last night we were still shattered and wanted just a relaxing lazy day. We met Sue and Paul early afternoon and headed down to the beach. We spent most of the day here. We had some food out and then had an early night once Sue and Paul had met Bob and went back to his house.
There is a bay called Hanauma bay which was a volcano 30,000 years ago but now one side of the crater wall has collapsed so the ocean has flooded it creating a coral and attracting loads of tropical fish. We met Sue and Paul early in the morning and planned on going up there but we waited for the bus for nearly an hour and there was no sign of it so we changed our plans and headed for the beach instead. We spent all afternoon in the sea and then walked down to the other end of town and went to a restaurant for a meal together for the last time. We stayed in the restaurant for a while (until Sue was pretty sloshed!) and then headed back. Sue and Paul can't get down to Waikiki tomorrow so it will be the last time we see them for 7 months so we all said our goodbyes.
Today is our last full day in Hawaii before we head to Fiji so we are definately going to do Hanauma bay as we have both been wanting to do it for so long. It took us about an hour to get there by bus but it was so worth it. We got to see the eastern side of the island on the way as we hadn't been up that side yet. Hanauma Bay was well worth the wait, the beach was quite long and totally white sandy beaches and all the water was torquise and clear, even from way up the cliff we could see the coral reefs and the bottom of the bay. Before we were allowed down to the beach we had to watch a 10 minute video on how the bay was formed and telling us the rules as it was a protected site. We went down and got our masks straight away and headed straight for the reefs. There was so much to see, I think if you came back time after time you would see something different. When we first went in we saw a few different types of fish but a bit later on we saw a massive sea turtle. We followed it and swam next to it for about 20 minutes, we kept our distance but it didn't seem to mind us being there so it was brilliant. We then went over to the other side of the bay and saw a load more colourful fish and big schools of fish. There was things there that I had never seen before anywhere (not even on tele) that were rainbow coloured or had a gold outline and we even saw a type of fish that can only be found in Hawaiin waters. Jodie saw an octopus, which I was gutted I didn't and we saw a massive eel that was wrapped around rocks. Just before we got out we saw another turtle and tried following this one but the current is pretty strong so we lost it. We spent about 3 to 4 hours here and then got changed and headed back up to get the bus back. We didn't realise that the reef went on for miles out of the crater and went down to 100 metres deep and that if we would have swum to the outer reef then we would have seen squids, lobsters and 3 different types of sharks. Was gutted we never knew that earlier! We were back in the hotel room for about 10 minutes when there was a knock on the door. Sue and Paul had come down to surprise us! Jodie was made up that she got to see them again so we spent the rest of the evening sat in talking. When they were due to leave we followed them out and said our goodbyes to Bob, Sue and Paul.
We have an 8 hour flight tomorrow to get to Fiji and then about a 3 hour bus journey to get to our resort. We have no idea how long that will take as apparently the bus journies are an experience on there own and with Fiji time it may take us a lot longer to get there!
We have fully enjoyed Hawaii, its a shame the bank has kinda ruined the last week but we have still had a good time. I would come back but I wouldn't go to Oahu again, I would do the Big Island and probably the lower half of Maui. We have spent a few weeks in the same hotel so I am looking forward to actually travelling again and especially the journey through Fiji to our resort!
