So, after 3 hours sleep we met Andrew (our cousin) at Sydney airport ready for the Anzac Day Rugby pub crawl! Anzac Day is an Australian public holiday to remember those people who lost their lives in wars...so obviously the best way to pay hommage is to drink!! So we did. A lot.
We arrived at the first pub at 12.00pm and received our arrival number, which was 8, 9 and 10!! Apparently you were pretty hardcore if you were in the top 10...so we gained a lot of respect by the end of the night when us pommy's had been on the pub crawl a lot longer than some of the wimpy rugby boys! We had the rules explained to us; 45 minutes in each bar, only drink with left hand and you must have at least one drink per bar. So off we went, following the crazy rugby people through the streets of Sydney, getting louder as each bar passed. Some were also in fancy dress, so as you can imagine they attracted a lot of strange looks too! At many of the bars they were playing "two up", a gambling game which is only legal on Anzac Day every year. Basically you have a piece of wood (like a ruler) and two coins. People bet on whether the coins will land on heads or tails (if it's one of each you throw again). One person has to throw the coins from the ruler above their heads and then who ever guesses right wins the money. Andrew and Holly managed to win $180 ...but then also managed to loose it all!! We had a great time and managed to stay standing until the end of the night! The following day we had a GREAT day just watching DVD's all day and didn't move off the sofa at all, which was really nice.
We eventually ventured out to do some sightseeing the next day and saw the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Discovery Museum, Darling Harbour and The Rocks area of the city. We also went to the Sydney Aquarium which was nice, but as it was school holidays very busy!! (we were both very patient and polite though - take after our Dad for that!!!!).
We visited the Sydney Aquarium, Australia's number one attraction! It was really good, but the school holidays meant that it was packed! There were numerous aquaurium which you could walk through, including sharks and seals, but not together! Afterwards we met with Andrew and Tanya for lunch then had a browse around the shops.
On our last day we headed we headed to Glebe market, which had a hippy feel to it. You could buy loads of second hand clothes and unique jewellery. That night we headed for a really nice meal with Andrew, before going to a college party!! Holly was a little worse for wear...but we just about managed to make the flight!! No Gin for Holly for a little while! Well, maybe a long time!
