Early rise as yet another huge day in the car (groan). Looked out the window and everything is white.
Thank goodness for snow plows and salt on the road. The roads weren't too bad so off we went.
Hunger pains started so I entered maccas into gps....Paul not so happy it was a massive detour off the highway. He hadnt had coffee yet so that didn't help.
Maccas was located in Walmart so we pulled up in the car park covered in snow. Now we got into the car when we left in the undercover carpark so this was our first time going outside. Hmmmm no words can express how cold -5 temp with wind hurts. Feels like being stabbed inside and out. Plus we couldn't run into the store as ground was slippery....we were well and truly awake by then.
Back on the road for another couple of hours before stopping to try maple bacon muffin....ewww but Paul and the boys really enjoyed maple donuts.
As we got closer to Montreal we realised that it was probably a wise idea not to go on to Quebec as cars were skidding on the road and it was very icy so we decided to find our hotel.
Apparently out gps doesn't like French instructions and there were many tantrums trying to enter the Montreal address. Finally I managed to find the street and we headed in the right direction skidding a lot on the way. We parked and when we got out it felt like ice bullets in the face....awesome :(
Realising after we were in our room we needed food Paul and I rugged up and decided to make the trek around the block to subway for food. Easy enough.....no it wasn't. The snow had turned into ice so it was like walking on an oil slick. Slowly we walked up the road, until my legs lost footing and I fell straight on to my back and hit my head really hard on the ice. At that moment I wanted to go home and had quite a sook. The worst thing was I had to get up and keep going.
At that moment I hated Canada as it took over an hr tip toeing around the corner with trucks and cars skidding near us on the road.
Finally we reached subway....yay. Once in we realised the menu was in French, this was going to be fun. Thankfully after much pointing and speaking loudly and slowly we got our order. Worst thing was we had to walk back....dam.
By the time we got back to the hotel I was frozen from the minus 20 degree temp and extremely sore from the fall, bed is the only place for me. We watched the French news and saw a lot of residents slipping over on the road, yay it wasn't only me.
Right now I can't wait to leave Canada. It is so cold and the ice has kicked me well and truly in the arse.
