So today was our first on shore day so we got up early excited at the thought of venturing out on to land. We pulled into port and could see the mountainside of Haiti.
We got off the ship and walked into a heat wave....it was hot hot hot. We could see the beach so didn't mind too much.
We had our map and thought we would work out how to get to the markets on the other side of the island. There was a tram shuttle so we jumped on that as we thought it would be too far to the other side of the island. We were wrong as it only took a minute to get there. That is when we realised that this was not Haiti....well not the real one. We were on a man made beach/island that royal Caribbean have made as we are not allowed to venture into the real Haiti. I have done my research and I know that Haiti is not a real pretty destination but I still wanted to see it. So we basically were spending the day on an extension of the ship. So I was fairly unhappy about this but went and set up a beach lounge and tried to find shade and drank local rum. The catering staff from the ship made us a BBQ on the beach which was pretty delicious. They made ribs and jerk chicken which was pretty lip smacking good.
After spending the day in nice cool water we headed back with our smuggled rum and came back on board. By this time the kids were cross between tomatoes and beet roots so a visit to the shop store to get aloe Vera was the first thing we did before heading to Italian night in the dining room....mmmmm that was pretty good and soaked up some rum.
