Wow wow wow Barcelona is cool!!! Absolutely beautiful, just like every other stop we've made on the Mediterannean cruise! Today my Dad and Marlene knew there would be a lot to see in Barcelona, so we hired a private tour guide instead of taking one of the tours the cruise offered... and I'm so glad we did! The lady that took us around knew sooo much, answered all of our questions, took us to see everything we wanted...
We started by driving down near the beach and headed in to see Sagrada Familia, which is an absolutely mind-blowing church. It was designed by Gaudi, who also did a ton of other things through the city, some of which we got to see today. But this church. It's been being built for around 100 years, and it's still not done yet. Going to visit it in person, I see why. There is so much freaking detail in every little corner of this place. And it's enormous. They're estimating it to be done by 2026, which would mark 100 years since Gaudi's death. I definitely want to see it when its fully finished.
We checked out Gaudi's Park later, which was designed by him, included houses he designed, and had some of his artistic touches everywhere. This was also one of my favorite parts. Can they all be my favorite?
For lunch we went for one of the best things you can have in Spain... Tapas! The driver took us to what he and the tour guide thought one of the best in the area was, and they asked us to just bring what they recommend. Super delish!
We drove by the beach again after, and through Barcelona, checking out cool sights. The guide took us walking through parts of really old Barcelona, and told us about some of the history. There was a king's chapel actually built ontop of old Roman walls, and you could see the architecture of both. If we didn't have the guide, we would've walked right by, thinking it was nothing. This is also where we had a chance to stand in the same room as Christopher Columbus told Isabella and Ferdinand that he found an uncharted continent instead of his original intended mission.
And then my favorite part... We had a six course professionally wine-paired dinner. Omfg. I've never actually seen how much wine could change the way food tastes, and vice versa. And it was all gourmet food, and phenomenal wine. I've never really liked white wine before but I could chug the s*** they were putting infront of me. I took a picture of the menu because every part of it was awesome. They sat us at a table of 8, so there were 4 people we'd never met before. An older guy and his son who just graduated law school, and a couple from Texas. The husband from Texas reminded me of serving guys like him at The Keg, and I was able to keep bantering with him all night. It was pretty entertaining (especially after the 4th glass of wine).
After the amazing dinner, and far too much wine, we all went back to our rooms. I spent some time Facetiming my boyfriend for the first time since my trip started, and it was so nice to see his stupid face <3
