This was a good day because I got to see something I've wanted to for a few years now. I took a few history and religion courses that centered around Christianity/Catholicism, and I've learned quite a few times how the popes relocated from the Vatican to Avignon centuries ago because of papal election issues. Today, I got to see the place they lived in Avignon! We walked through the old pope's palace and saw a lot of the area that was still standing today. And the good thing is, it was nowhere near as busy as the actual Vatican! (Although it's slightly less spectacular...)
We also went to an area called Les Baux. Its an old medieval town up in some hills in Provence and has amazing views of the French countryside. Oh, did I mention, I'M FINALLY IN FRANCE?!
Being at the papal palace was funny because our tour guide had a thick French accent and it kept sounding like the "poop's palace". This was extra funny in areas that smelled like horse poop.
We had Father's Day dinner at the steakhouse restaurant on the ship. It was pretty delicious. These intense dinners are really adding up (inches on my waist).
