Arriving in Bangkok
Another fraudster awaited us here! We landed and queued for a taxi to take us into town. The fat, lazy, arrogant, non communicative driver charged us 550 Baht. Would NOT put the meter on (despite both of us asking 3 times). He decided to take the long route in through two tolls and queues of traffic (thought we were on the M25). Chloe was furious. It took us over an hour. When we arrived, I gave him a 1,000 Baht & 50 Baht note, expecting a 500 Baht note back. Oh no…… he tried to swindle me with 4 x 100 Baht notes. He didn't get away with itJNow, Bangkok is amazing. Looked far bigger than London. OMG where do you begin in a city this size??Luckily Chloe had been before and knew it all ha ha! The accommodation was good, 2 single beds, aircon (noisy) and good shower etc. It had 5 separate buildings and was full of backpackers. Chloe soon made herself at home, spilling her entire wardrobe all over the floor and there it stayed for three days (at least). Wish I'd taken a photo. We did it all …….. Shopped on Khao San Road (backpackers road), shopped at the floating market, shopped at the night markets. Get the picture?? We shopped until we dropped, especially on Sunday. We both got bargains, me I got some Miu Miu shoes for only £9, Chloe got 2 pairs of Diesel jeans at £14 each. No room in my suitcase to bring some of Chloe's stuff home ha ha! Of course, we also did some sightseeing. Actually picked the hottest day to do it in!!! We went to the Grand Temple. Had to change my clothes there and wear a blue thick sari! I had my orange dress top on, this holds up my boobs lovely - so no bra! Hence the droopy boobs (see pics yuk!). Chloe took lots of pictures, we think the best are when the school kids were trying to make the guards laugh (you had to be there). We also drove a long way afterwards to see some graves!! Of all the people who had died there, and in Japan, during the 2nd world war. Pretty boring really. Although we did take a couple of photo's. I know some people are interested in this sort of thing (Nicola's John for one!), but it was just rows and rows of graves!! After that we travelled some more to see the Bridge over the river Kwai (see pics). It's marvellous how they made this. But best of all was the temple at the first stop. OMG you should see just how much work went into building the temples. I don't think that the pictures do it justice. It was just a shame that the 'Emerald Buddha' was closed that day - typical eh? We ate out each night on the streets. The first night we sat on a corner eating Thai curry….. a rat shot across the road from the market stalls and ran throughout everyone's feet's aaaargh! We didn't eat there again ha ha! We found a nice restaurant that served excellent pasta (crap pizza though) and went back a 2nd time for more.
