Hellos :-)
So, just a quick update before I head off to the terrace for some lunch and cocktails while watching the mists of the Falls (jealous?? :P)
This morning I went off on the Lion Walk. It was so fudding amazing - I cannot even begin to describe it.
I was in a group of 10 and we accompanied two lions on their morning walk. We just follow them about - letting them do whatever they wish to do and that particular moment. Whether it be jumping on one another, nibbling on kudu poo (mmmm, yummy) or just rolling around in the dirt.
We had a brother and sister - Caesar and Chobe - who were 16 months old. Everyone gets to have photos taken with one of them, I had Caesar :-) And he is HUGE - the size of his paws is amazing and he is STILL GROWING!!!!
Chobe decided to climb a tree at one point to observe her domain and then got herself stuck - poor thing. It took a bit of manoeuvring about to get herself down again. Totally no where near as graceful as a leopard coming down from a tree.
As we were about to say goodbye to them, Rambo (who walked with us, carrying a rifle to protect us from the animals within the reserve if needs be - although I only saw an impala WAY in the distance) threw a big branch thing into the river for Chobe to play with. She went straight into the water, but Caesar was a bit more cautious. Testing the water with one paw first, then almost falling over as he put all four paws in the water.
Chobe was continually gnawing on Caesar, his leg or his tail and tackling him - they just flop around over one another. It's so beautiful to watch up close.
I also went into town today. The street vendors are everywhere and are so very persistant - they just follow you around. And they are quite lascivious. I've actually ended up inventing a boyfriend. I haven't given him a name yet . . . they keep asking me if I want them to show me around or if I'm here alone. They go away rather quickly when I say I'm here with my boyfriend but he is not feeling well so is resting back at the hotel.
I go off on the Sunset Cruise down the Zambesi tonight which should be gorgeous. Am meeting up with some people I met in Botswana so it should be noice.
Tomorrow morning I head off on an Elephant Back Safari *bounces* and then I'll spend the rest of the day wandering around the Falls - tis so very hard being me right now *laughs*
The carnivores amongst you will be proud to know that I ate Kudu while I was in Botswana. It was delicious. A nice slow roasted kudu stew. For someone who doesn't actually like meat - I was surprised at how delicious it was.
Mande's Lesson from Africa No. 2
Mosquitos will find you - no matter where you are. You can go to bed, with repellant on, having sprayed the entire tent and have a net around the bed and you will STILL wake up with bites over you.
Mande's Lesson from Africa No. 3
Even if the sun is not glaring down on you and hidden behind clouds, you will still get very very sunburnt. (my poor ta-tahs)
Observations
Africa and I seem to love one another equally. My shoulder isn't hurting at all, I've got no sinus problems and I don't have a headache nearly every day.
There actually is an animal I loathe more than hyena. Baboons. I'm surprised at how much I reallllly loathe them. Evil things.
Anyway my loves - I'm off to have some cocktails :-)
*loveloves*
