So, I have one more day left at Kwantu. Two weeks have gone so quickly and while I have had a great time here and met some lovely people (and some not so lovely people) I'm actually ready to leave.
The program is wonderful, and while there are no cubs young enough for us to interact with, I have really enjoyed the conservation side of things.
There is one tiger cub, Bengals, who is about 5 months old - but she is fiesty girl and theý won't let us in with her, no matter how much I beg and plead and even offer to sign an indemnity contract that says I am willingling entering and if I lose an arm or foot - so be it.
I've also fallen in love. His name is Zulu and is a fine specimen of manliness. He is, of course, the dominant male lion at Kwantu and to hear him roar is so fudding amazing - you can feel it vibrate right through you! And when he gets the boys in the predator camp going - whoa - it's indescribable. We just sit at night and listen to them.
The ele sanctuary is also amazing - we got to spend ALL afternoon with them yesterday. There were no guests, so after I had boogied and sung my way around the bush attacking and slashing Scottish Thistle, we got to sit with them, feed them and touch and interact with them all afternoon.
4 girls - they were rescued and are so loving and affectionate and gentle. Elephant kisses are quite interesting :-)
We have one male and female white lion at Kwantu - Shumba and Nala. Two bengals - Ravi and I can't remember his wife's name. Their three daughters, Ben and two others - and Bengals of course. 9 male lions and a group of females, but we don't get to see them much as they are on the other side of the camp. A female cheetah - who I suggested should be called Amanda as she is so pretty (LOL) and a 3 legged serval. Oh and three young male lions too.
Only Zulu, Chierdza and their 3 cubs are actually out wild in the bush. There is apparently a leopard, but no one has seen it.
The programme, the volunteer coordinators and the staff are so much fun and lovely - but sadly, management seem to believe in slave labour and apartheid burns bright in the heart and souls of two men here. It's appaling and has actually left me with a bad taste in my mouth from this experience - which is disappointing as it could have been wonderful.
Anyways, my 15 mins is about up. So I will probably do a quick blog on Monday before I head to the airport and tell you all about the cubs at Seaview we are going to snuggle on Saturday in PE. I believe there is a group at bottle feeding age, a group that are 3/4 months and another group that are 5/6 months :-)
Love to my lovelies xxxo

Jess Wow, all sounds pretty amazing to me! It is such a shame when a couple of idiots spoil such an experience but there will be so many amazing memories from this trip, I can't imagine you will want to come home! Huge hugs, Jess xo
Kathy Kaplan Its fantastic to read your blogs Mondy Pondy. Your discription of the lion roar vibrations is so perfect. Completely set the scene; I could feel the roar too. Any chance of bringing back something cute and cuddly? We all miss you. Keep having the time of your life. Love KK
