Slave forts and Rainforests
On 16th Novemeber I went with Cynthia to Cape Coast and Kakum National Park. Cape Coast is the City where many of the old slave forts are situated and Kakum Park has its famous canopy walk.
We left Accra at 5 am and caught the STC Coach to Cape Coast. The 3 hour journey was quite pleasant as the coach has plenty of room (unlike tro-tros). Half of the way there we were travelling on a newly constructed road however the rest of the time we travelled over dirt tracks. I also saw something I never thought, and hope I never will see again - a dead bodya t the side of the road. The man had been the victim of a hit and run and his body had just been left in the road and covered with a few palm leaves.
When we arrived at Cape Coast we went straight to Kakum by tro-tros. At Kakum we walked to the start of the Canopy Walk - 7 bridges made out of wood and rope 40m in the air! During the first bridge I was absolutely petrified and refused to look down but by the third one I was having a great time!
Following the Canopy Walk we decided to make our way to Cape Coast Castle. Cape Coast Castle was the main SLave Port used by Europeans and going round it was very difficult to realise what we (as Europeans) had done to the African People.
After the tour we looked round the castle a little more and made our way back to Accra. Unfortunately the STC Coach was full and we were stuck taking back the tro-tros - 3 hrs of no leg room!
