Allright guys. I know this blog got neglected a little in the end there, but again I didn't have a computer to write on and it complicated things a little. As some of you might know Im now back in cold old Norway and half of my trip around NZ is still missing from this blog! I think it is my duty to finish this not only for you guys, but also a little for my self! Therefor I shall update the blog till the blog is complete! Here we go!
So after Wellington where I posted my last entry I have had two nights in Taupo. Taupo is really one of the nices places in NZ as far as I know! The atmosphere is laid back and the sights are absolutely stunning! One of the things in taupo I enjoyed the most was the gigantic lake, Lake Taupo. This lake was made by a volcantic eruption some 26 500 years ago and is today the biggest volcanic lake on the planet. I loved it because it was nice and clear, had a sandy floor and was soo fresh! It was not cold nor warm, just perfect! We spent almost half a day just laying there in the sand sunbathing and swimming, absoutely amazing! Taupo was also one of the places in NZ with the best deals on alcohol for backpackers.. You might draw a line and assume that our nights in Taupo therefore was used to consume some of this alcohol and you are absoultely right! There was also a great little playground in a park right next to our hostel where we went every night after the bar to try out some of the fancy kiwi playground-toys. Great fun!
After taupo kiwi experience took us further up north to Auckland. But on the way we had a stop in Matamata where you could jump off and make your own way to Hobbiton (I assume most of you know what Im talking about, but if by any chance no: this is the village where the hobbits live in the story of Lord of the rings. So this is the movie set, where you can find around 40 hobbit-holes). Me, Tom and Hector stayed behind and got on a tour. It took some 20 mins to get out to where hobbiton was situated with bus from Matamata. And when you got there it was hard to believe your own eyes! It was sooo surreal! You just walk up this little pathway and suddenly you are stood right in the middle of all these little hobbit holes! It was amazing. I could just walk around there for ever! And all the details Peter Jackson has put into the building of this place! For example he hired a person to walk up and down twice a day to all the clothes lines you see in the village, for two weeks. This just so that it would seem real and lived in.. Also he hired people to paint the moss you can see on the fences etc in the village, by hand, to make it look real.. Its unbelievable!
After we walked around for a while and saw both Frodo and Bilbo's and Sam's hobbithole we headed over to the Green dragon. This is the pub in the Shire and we were lucky enough to get a complimentary drink. After this it was time to leave, gutted. We headed back to Matamata and then got a bus from there to Auckland.
Auckland is the biggest city in New Zealand, but for me it was not a big deal. I only spent one night there before I was to head up north. My last night I spent with my dear traveling buddies before I was to leave them all behind the next day. Massive sadface..
I think I shall leave it at that and we will then continue with my next destination in my next entry! Thanks for reading! xx
