Well the Angels are on the last stage of their mission. This will be the last blog until we get home when we will do a final wrap up.
We left Vancouver Island on 6th in an 18 seater plane. It was almost like doing another helicopter ride - a great way to see a bit more of Canada. We spent our last night in Canada at the Delta Airport Hotel before embarking on a 17.5 hour trip from the hotel to our hotel in Waikiki. Bet you thought it would be a much quicker trip! We did.
Our plane left at 7am not 7.30 as our ticket indicated. Luckily we awoke early and caught the 5am shuttle bus and then did the tour through US customs I.e., finger prints, eye photo etc. Landed in LA and then had to wait 6 hours for the connecting flight to Hawaii. Not much to do in the airport and we had not been able to get a business seat so no access to the lounge. However we were not to be deterred. This trip had put Pam's Qantas Frequent Flyer Status back to gold so we approached the lounge and requested entry knowing if accepted only two would get in. The Angels do not separate in times like this so with a big PRETTY PLEASE and an "abracadabra" the doors to the lounge were open. It was not a Qantas run lounge where food is provided but a code share but it was better than nothing. Tea coffee and cookies were provided so Trish was happy!
Flight to Hawaii was nothing out of the ordinary. We had exit row seats which the wonderful Amen had organised so plenty of leg room. We landed - no customs as we had done this when leaving Canada so all we had to do was wait for our baggage which had been marked priority from Vancouver. We waited and we waited a bit longer. The crowd was getting smaller and we waited. The Angels did not panic. Then right at the end out they came still with their priority stickers in tact. Not sure what that tells you about priority stickers but at least they came.
We thought of getting a shuttle but decided on a taxi. It is around 8.30pm by this time and we ended up in a traffic jam because they decided to do some road works. Got to the hotel Hilton Hawaiian Resort and had the longest wait to check in for the whole trip and to top it off we could not find the room. Instructions like your Tower is to the right are not very helpful in a place this size when there are towers everywhere.
Eventually we found our room. Pam went to get milk because they don't supply it with the tea and coffee making facilities. Had been told there was a shop on the first floor, only problem being there is no first floor. She managed to track it down and on returning to the room found it was full of the family who had arrived earlier that day. After a quick "hello" every one went to bed.
Next day was pretty lazy. Breakfast, lounging in the shade in the bar near the pool, lunch then a good old nanna nap in the afternoon before heading down to Waikiki for dinner looking for a restaurant that Wendy/Zara had been to ten years ago. We did not find it but went to a great Italian place instead. Back home just in time to see the 9pm fireworks.
Not sure what we will be doing over the next few days other than celebrating Linda's big day on Thursday which also is Kirsty's birthday as well. Will be back home late Saturday afternoon. We will be sad the mission is over but looking forward to our own beds, particularly those with dogs on them.
