Howzit!?
Quick update for you all as we are at the half way point of our trip around South Africa.
Having a great time and loving all the different parts of this country from Kruger NP to the snow capped peaks of Lesotho.
We had a wonderful two weeks staying with Ong, Phil and Harri in Durban (thanks so much guys) and travelled to the Drakensburg Mountains, Lesotho, Swaziland and Kruger NP whilst with them. We also enjoyed the Great Durban weather, catching some rays on the roof of their building.
Kruger was a particular highlight....we saw the Big 5! And were very lucky to have our own local guide (Phil!).
We then flew up to Jo'Burg and picked up our Wicked Campervan. With petrol shortages in SA at the moment, we quickly ran out of petrol having taken a wrong turn and Mal had to high tail it to a service station (finding petrol only at the 3rd one!) with jerry can in hand. Locals kindly picked him between petrol station 1 and 2 and even drove him back to Nat whilst she waiting in the van. An interesting introduction to Jo'Burg!
Spent two amazing nights in Soweto including a bike tour around part of the township, a unique experience.
Since then we made our way south through the Free State, around the border of Lesotho (amazing mountain scenery) into the Eastern Cape and have been hugging the coast since then. We have just had three great nights with friends, Colin and Sue (thanks so much for the hospitality) in Port Elizabeth.
We have now just joined the Garden Route as we head west towards Cape Town. We are constantly marvelling at the variety of breathtaking scenery that this country throw up all the time and have been warmly welcomed by everyone we have met or asked questions of!
Weather has been very wet the last couple of days, so we have taken shelter at the computer but are looking forward to getting up close and personal with ostriches, caving and wine tasting on route to Cape Town over the next week or two.
Our campervan is going well - Mal fits so that is a relief and we are sleeping soundly each night and enjoying the freedom that having our own accomodation and kitchen set up has provided for this part of the trip.
Hope this finds you all well.
Love Nat and Mal
