To clarify, we are actually in Puerto Iguazu, a lovely little town on the Argentinian side of Iguazu Falls......unfortunately Google doesn´t recognise it!
Mal is the very excited with the geographical location here, Brazil over the river to the East, Paraguay over the river to the North (which unfortunately we can´t visit due to Nat not having a Visa!) and Uruguay, just South!
We left Chile last Friday and crossed the Andes for a second and final time, amazing how european and familiar (and warmer!) Argentinia feels.
We had 17 hours in a nice place called Salta, looked for a camera, but decided against buying one (so we`re sticking with our old style film camera we bought back in Chile.......thus no photo album attached with this blog!). Enjoyed two lovely meals here including quality coffee and steak for Mal.
We then did a 21 hour bus across Argentina to Iguazu arriving here on Sunday.
Stayed in a great hostel, cooked meals every night (first time since March.....very exciting!). Spent a fantastic day on the Argentinian side of the falls where you can get really close to many of the 256 waterfalls in the park. The power of the water is quite breathtaking and the setting beautiful. These falls are not as well known as their big name counterparts around the world, but definitely worth a visit! A highlight was the speed boat right up to sections of the falls where you absolutely blinded and soaked (like being under a fire hose) on the short 12 minute ride.
We visited the Brazilian side yesterday (on a day trip) and although the park paths are not as extensive, it still affords amazing views with the spray equally drenching! We also took a very quick walk through the city, Foz do Iguassu and were very unimpressed and thankful we had decided to stay back in Argentina. The advantage of this move was also to use the better (and cheaper) Argentinian bus company to take our last big bus trip to Rio (22 hours).
So we now head to the largest Portuguese speaking country in the world. This will be fun as we are just getting our head around a few words of Spanish and aparently, the two are reasonably different. Looking forward to some sun, beach and relaxing as we head into the final 12 days of our trip.
Love Nat and Mal
