We left the luxury of staying at the Hilton at 20 past 6 on Monday morning to get the shuttle bus to Melbourne Avalon airport for our flight to Sydney. We've been to some pretty small airports but this one was absolutely tiny with only 3 flights per day and we were somehow allowed to take a big bottle of water through security which is something you definitely can't do in the UK. Anyways our flight was good and it only took an hour and twenty minutes to get to Sydney.
We only had carry on luggage on the flight as we had left our big rucksacks at the Hilton where we will collect them later in the week. So we were straight off the plane and onto a train which took us to the central station from which it was a 5 minute walk to our hostel on George Street. Now I'm not sure if we have became a bit snobbish overnight but we are not overly impressed with our hostel. We are in a 6 bed dorm which to be fair is not too bad and is liveable. However, there are only 4 toilets an 2 showers for the entire hostel which must sleep about 60 people!! And 2 of the toilets are in the shower room so if some one is in the shower then there are only 2 toilets which is pretty ridiculous. Anyways, we want to get out and about as we are only here for 2 days and its just somewhere to sleep in.
So after dumping our bags in our room, we headed towards Circular Quay which is where you can view the Sydney Opera House an the Harbour Bridge from. The weather was great so we had excellent views and they were both really impressive structures. We were both a bit knackered after our early flight so we grabbed some stuff from the hostel and went and lay in a nearby park for a couple of hours in the afternoon which was quite relaxing. Later on we headed out to a couple of bars where we had a few drinks and something to eat before we were back and in bed by half 10.
We got up this morning looking forward to visiting Bondi and Coogee beaches. It was a bit cloudy but we hoped that it would clear to allow us to lie on the beach and have a swim in the sea. We caught the bus to Bondi but as we arrived it started spitting with rain before the heavens opened as we started the walk to Coogee. We decided to let the rain ease off and soon shelter in a McDonald's for a cup of tea and a hot chocolate. Unfortunately, the rain just kept erring heavier before we gave up and caught the bus back to the city. Bondi beach looked really nice and it was a bit of a shame we weren't able to enjoy it but at least we got to visit. So as the weather still isn't the greatest, we are heading to the pictures this afternoon to see 12 Years a Slave before we have a quiet night and fly back to Melbourne tomorrow afternoon.
