I am writing this blog on our final day in Sucre (Monday). I think it's fair to say that we have really enjoyed Sucre and, surprisingly, chilling out really suits the both of us. (No snide comments from our families please!!)
On Sunday, we reluctantly got dressed as we needed to venture to the bus station to book our bus to La Paz. It was pretty simple to book and we paid about £12 for the 13 hour journey in a 170 degree reclining seat. After this we went to see our Canadian friends who were participating in a racquetball tournament not far from the bus station. We were surprised at the number of competitors who were there and the number of courts where matches were taking place (14 or 15). We stayed for about an hour watching some of the Canadians and random South American kids play. Apparently the sport is massively popular in Bolivia.
After leaving the racquetballers to their competition we had some lunch in the plaza than headed back the room as my face is still struggling from the combination of the Salt Flats, sunburn and the shower gel debacle. We went out for tea to a restaurant which overlooked the plaza and had another excellent feast. We decided to share what we ordered and I ordered pork chops in a sort of barbecue sauce and Beth ordered a Bolivian dish called Pique Macho. This is basically a combination of steak, chicken and sausage with fries, onion, peppers and topped with eggs. The food was fantastic and was too much for the both of us to demolish. After this we headed back to the hostel to finish packing and have a quiet night.
Today, we have checked out of our room and tried to while away the hours in a cafe and our hostel. There isn't really much else to add as we wait for our bus to La Paz which is at 7.30pm this evening. It is back to the altitude in La Paz so hopefully we won't have any adverse reaction to behind back at height.
