Got up early and before heading off decided to grab a coffee from Starbucks which is in the neighbouring Virgin River Casino. Walked into the casino at about 8.30 am and there were at least one hundred people in there playing the pokies or on the tables. This is dedication I suppose? A quick hour and a bit trip and we are back in Vegas. We can't check in to at least 1pm so had breakfast at Dennys (again), then off to Walmart. Pretty sad isn't it? The first things we do in Vegas is go to Dennys and Walmart. In defence, we needed to stock up on snacks and drinks for the room. I should give Walmart a mention here, it is like Big W, Harvey Norman (a bit), Bunnings and Woolworths all rolled into one and most things are bloody cheap. A six pack of Stella beer costs $7, a bottle of California Cab Sav $8 and 35 x 500ml bottles of water $3.75 When we first arrive in America we always head to Walmart and purchase a $16 plastic esky which lasts the trip then we throw or give it away before we leave. Most of the food in Walmart is monster size but you can also get some decent fruit and sandwiches which is great for any road trip. It is always an interesting exercise visiting Walmart, you never know what or who you will see. Our room was available at 1pm so checked in and as we are Starwood Preferred Guests (SPG) got upraded to and SPG only floor with all these other little add ons (compimentary drinks etc). Had a bit of a rest until 4pm then strolled down to the strip, still bloody hot at 41c and a very dry heat. Vegas is changing, the big Casinos are still there but the older ones are disappearing. Bills which is opposite Belagios is in the process of being pulled down. Imperial Palace is no more and is now part of a new casino. There are a couple towards the end of the strip that look like works stopped midway through, probably victims of the GFC. One of the things that is great in Vegas is you can wander down the street with a beer in your hand. We grabbed a few beers and just wandered around the strip. About 7pm we decided to check out some steakhouses. Again these change a lot, googled for some recommendations, went for the most recommended and arriving there find out it doesnt exist any more. Strolling around we found Toby Keiths Grill in Harrahs Casino, getting bloody hungry so decided to give it a try. The ribs were the best I have had here so far, they are still not as good as Texas Ranch Steakhouse in Sunset Bvd but will keep searching. Got home about 11pm and knackered. Lets see what tomorrow brings
