The intention is to cruise down to Death Valley or close to, then stop for the night and continue on in the morning. Leaving Reno/Carson City we head south towards Mono lake. It is an amazing landscape, the sides of the road look like the ground exploded up and pushed all this burnt rock up. The road got up to 2540m above sea level which is 300m higher than Australia's highest mountain Mt Kosciuszko. The drive down the I395 was fantastic, we were driving down a big valley, with high mountains either side, to our right was Yosemite National Park, didn't have time to visit. Witnessed a phenomenal change in landscape along the way. We hit Lone Pine ( yep that's the towns name) which is west of Death Valley about 3pm. Too early to stop for the night so we decided to keep going to Furnace Creek ( other side of death valley). As I mentioned before we were over 2500m above sea level now we are heading to 70m below sea level. Amazing Country, looks like the moon. Got to furnace Creek and the accom was **** so we kept going. The next town of any significance ( over 50 people) was Baker but again was **** so we kept going until we hit Primm Valley Resort and Casino which is on the LA - Vegas highway on the border between California and Nevada. We arrived at about 10pm and the room rates were $50 per night for a room. The rooms are fine although a bit old and tired. We decided to It was our eventual destination as it has a premium outlet attached to it. I spent over 12 hours behind the wheel and covered over 800km.
