16 hours later and Donna resurfaces to have her array of pills for breakfast. We showered and made ourselves slightly more human before heading out to investigate Salinas. Seriously hungover. Woke up late with a few minutes to gather our stuff and check out. Never a good combination. After a quick detour to Subways (which we have decided is the actual national dish, they are everywhere), we drove across town and over the Golden Gate Bridge. Thankfully the weather was still nice so we got a lovely view of the whole bridge and the city on the other side. After this we headed back over the bridge to look at the Painted Ladies houses...

With our tickets already purchased we headed back up to the piers to catch our ferry to Alcatraz. We thought we would take the easy option and hop on one of the old fasioned street cars, which turned out a bit more eventful than we'd expected. DIY pancakes awaited us downstairs in the hostel kitchen after a surprisingly good night's sleep. It took us a few goes to realise that our English style pancakes just wouldn't work with the thick American mix, but we got there eventually! We then set out and walked up from near Union Square where we are staying, up to fisherman's wharf. This was the 'the skies the limit' wake up call (see blog 1!) So with some time to kill and a long drive ahead of us we chilled out in bed and watched The Breakfast Club. The perfectly motivational start to any day! We drove up to Cambria for a breakfast burrito, Donna's chicken one was a bit suspect, she couldn't quite put her finger on what was wrong with it though.
