Ok I'm 6 weeks in and still alive and not really lost that much to be honest with you, well I have lost 2 towels, a couple of pairs of boxer shorts and I almost lost a pair of trainers but I got them back again:)
I'm currently in the south of Peru in a place Chiclayo, its ok but not my number 1 choice but its fine as I'm leaving on Sunday to head back down the coast and into Bolivia.
I'm currently travelling with 3 Irish kids who I meet in Arequipa, which btw is the coolest city I've been to, it has everything from sweet clubs in the evening to the prettiest square i`ve ever seen.
First thing I would like to say is sorry for my English but as everyone knows but English is my strongest thing!!!!
Peru is a awesome place, it really has everything you could ask for and well I've done everything I had on my checklist already so not that sure what's left to do lol
I landed in Lima 6 weeks ago and on my first night I thought I made the biggest mistake ever, the hostel was almost empty and the people in my dorm room were all boring and depressing and I thought myself I've packed in everything for this, but that way of thinking should changed, its amazing what happens when you meet nice people.
Lima itself wasn't the greatest place ever but I was lucky enough to befriend a bunch of Peru girls who took me under there wing and showed me places that the normal traveller don't normally get to
After Lima I took my first 18 hour bus ride to Arequipa, in a sick kind of way I really enjoyed this as I got to see the desert for the very first time, which I was soooooooooooo excited about.
I didn`t realized that Lima was built round on a desert or saying that the whole coast of Peru (maybe a little bit of research would haven't gone a miss magnus!!) it was a strange feeling driving out of lima just to see sand and loads of locals hanging about the road waiting for a bus to break down so they could rob it....
As I said above I loved Arequipa, I'm not going to lie to I didn't do much here apart from just chill and go out, I was really lucky as I hooked up with some sound people which kind of made it fun, one of which I'm still travelling with the now. I did however do one of the scariest thing I've done in my life, I went extreme down hill mountain biking. This mountain was over 4800 meters high and to get down you reaching speeds of 60kpm and some of the corners you where taking had dropped of over 4000 meters on the other side and if you came of you were dead!!!! But it was so much fun, at some points you were hitting rocks and the bike was bouncing everywhere you didn't know where it was going to land and when we hit the main road we had to bike though this local village,.
Now by village I mean just huts on the side of the road and when we were biking though it we got attacked by wild dogs. Ed the Irish bloke I did this with had done death road and he said it was way more hardcore (check me out bigging myself up) I also went to see this mummy which is over 500 years old and she still has her hair and everything this was a little bit creepy.
After spending a bit longer there than plan I head to a place called Huacachina, now this place is an oasis in the middle of the deseart. Its a totally strange place its just water with about 7 hostels, I was lucky enough to get a hostel with a pool and an awesome bar which cost me no more than 2 pounds a night and a big bottle of beer less than a pound, as you can guess I was happy with this.
The highlight of this place was going sand boarding and the buggy ride, now for people that know me I hate roller coasters but I heard that theses machines where like that and they weren't wrong, it was mad your flying down these dunes at god only knows what speed and the drivers just turns round and laughs at you, also we got to watch the sun set from the desert and it was one of the prettiest thing I've ever seen (I know that sound gay as). This is the place I almost lost my trainers, I had a few beers the night before and woke with not that long to check out the hostel, so I got to the bus station and realized that I left my shoes so I had to get a taxi back to the hostel and then I couldn't find them, this is the only time in 6 weeks where I almost got stressed so I asked the girl who worked there and she couldn't find, btw I had my flip flops on.... So some reason my trainers where behind the bar, where the barman sleeps on an evening....
After that I headed back up to lima which I have nothing to report, apart got stuck there for 4 days due to a bloody bus strike!!!!!!!
I then got another 12 hour bus to a small town called Huaraz, now this place is the place where all Peru kids go to for there holiday and I hated it couldn't wait to leave, now this could be down to me having a cold and been so high up (3000 meters is hard work) and also the bloke who ran our hostel was a d*ckhead (sorry mum for swearing), but I did however climb up to a glacier at 5200 meters, well got the bus up to about 4200m but man I'm not joking you trying to walk or do anything at that height is hard work, not what I signed up for one little bit, it was crazy. I was so looking forward to the glacier and to be honest with you it was a really disappointment... I did however end up doing some Karaoke which I nailed it and had the best burger from a burger stand called sex burger so not all bad.
Anyone bored of reading this yet haha
So I left that hell whole and was a happy, happy man and headed to Huanchaco where I learnt to surf and cut my foot to pieces by falling of the board every time haha it was a cool little place but totally dead so left there and headed in Trujillo, where I went to see Chan Chan and it be honest with it was nothing special, the other pre-Columbian cite called the moon and sun where so much better and the colors of them inside really good and you could so picture what it was little back then.
On the Sunday night I got caught up in this religion march thing, it was just how I pictured South America to be, hundreds of people walking about holding big pictures of Jesus and singing, it was crazy I seen this in Arequipa as well but this one was way bigger and was happening at 11pm, I can't express to you how big Jesus and the church is over here, everywhere you look there a big Jesus looking at you or a cross hanging of a mirror in a taxi, I knew it was big over here but just didn't realize just how big it was till I got here.
Left Turjillo and now I'm in Chiclayo, its nothing special but I did however win 15 pounds in a Casio last night and today I visited the best museum so far the museum of Sipan, so there a quick update of my travels so far and as I say I'm heading into Bolivia on Sunday and then back into Peru where I'm meeting a fellow dale member.
Anyway I'm of to see my new best friend... Ron, its a rum btw
