We're getting on the plane back to London in a few hours and I just wanted to write one more blog entry. I didn't write anything after Paihia because didn't get near a computer, but the trip around Northland was amazing. Back in Auckland, we had a couple of days doing stuff in the city, including Rob and Owen doing a 'skyscreamer' upwards bungy jump (I was more scared than they were!).
Well, not looking forward to this epic flight in the wrong direction! These 4 weeks have been amazing...I can't decide if it's the people of New Zealand or the landscape which make it so special - maybe it's the sheer serendipity of both coming together in one place. It's certainly left me an impression of sheer positivity and of the limitles possibilties of life. The Kiwis - Maori and Pakeha - just exude warmth and a commonsense, practical love of life... it's quite infectious. Sad to think that once we get off that plane in London, we won't hear anyone say 'sweet' or 'not a problem' cracking a smile that would melt away the hardest heart - no, English people just don't hand out the sweeties of humanity like that. Ah well, I console myself with the thought that at least England has good pubs (one thing that's missing over here...) but then again, England needs such places of solace.
Bye bye New Zealand - but I'll be back for sure!
