G'day Folks!
Have you missed me? Sorry yet again for late update on my blog but I have been slaving it away on a remote farm near Miriam Vale, queensland. for the past month! Let me start fromt the begining! As I have mentioned before I am doing this farm stuff for a visa extension! Well I was recommended this farmer through a friend! My journey started on the 4th January 2008. I too a plane from Sydney to Brisbane and arrived in Rockhampton at about 8am. I had another two hours to go from Rockhampton till my finaly destination. I got to the airport and took a taxi to Rocky as they local call it! Only to find out that I had to wait 8 hours till my next bus!!!! I checked the train but no luck either it was either get the next bus or sleep over and catch the morning one! well I didn't want to spend money on a hostel so I waited the whole 8 long hours at the bus station!! luckly it was next to a petrol station with a cafe! It wasn't as bad as I had previously thought! Some hours were waisted eating, playing chess on my computer, talking to this random guy who wouldn't stop enlightening me about his sex life with his older girlfriend lol!! he was a bit wierd lol!! but made the journey interesting I guess hahah!! some time also spent watching buses and people come and go! Oh yea, previoulsy at the airport I had shared a taxi with a girl and she gave me her number! which I found was really friendly!. I texted her and she came to show me Rocky and have a coffee. I saw a tree with shoes hanging from it! it was called the SOUL TREE!! it was funny but rather quirky! I think they must have been some sort of hippies living in that house! What I found interesting also was that the houses were all in stilts cos of the floods they get! Rocky was not really my kinda town! It reminded me a lot of america with thier drive thru restaurants and motels!! not much there for my liking but hey it wasted a few hours! So after finally serviving 8 hours there the bus finally arrived and I got to my destination around 11pm. So for the last month I have worked on this farm. It was an interesting experience but wouldn't go there again! It wasn;t so much the work I had to do but the attitude and atmospher of the people on the farm! I mainly did cleanign and cooking which was ok! I now know how to do a veg bake, bread and butter pudding and a few other recipes!! Gorden Ramsey has nothing on me hahaha!!!!! Oh yea I saw cows castrated, tagged and injected! not for the fate hearted I must say!! It certainly made my stomach turn!! I found it rather hard to watch at times!! I don't like pain in animals! I also saw them being pregancy tested! I am soo glad to say that I didn't go up the butt of a cow to check hahah!!! I had a chance to ride the horses and feed baby goat and lamb! That was the best of the whole stay! I got really close to the baby goat! He was my little boy!! Unforutnaltey he had to be castrated too! but I didn't watch that!! My little boy was becoming a big boy now ahhh!!! I bottle fed him everyday! He was so cute and he would bug and play about!! I also played with the cats! They enjoyed sleeping on my lap during the afternoon naps!!It was a Tourist Farmstay so we had many travellers staying on the farm! The last group were cool! they were a nice mixture from germany, england, australia and america. Had some good converstation with them! I had the chance to camp in the bush with what they call a swag!! (outdoor sleeping-tent). However, I had sunstroke that day so I didn,t feel like it! The stars at night were incredible!!! Magical!!!!! Anways! I am glad I had the opportunity to saver this part of australia and work on a cattle farm! I have learnt a lot and have grown a lot as a person too!!! I would have stayed longer there but I just wasn't happy by the end so decided to go!
My plan was to have a week holiday in the whitsundays and cairns before I hit the round and worked my last two months! I was really looking forward to scuba diving and sunbathing, check out the sights of northern queensland!! BUT would you believe it, I chose the bloody wet season!! I have heard of the wet season before but I thought it was some days rainny and others sunny! NOT BLOODY FLOODS LOL!!!!!!!! well that was my trip down the pan!! I couldn't even get to Airlie Beach (whitsundays) cos the road was blocked off due to the floods!! so the bus went on to the next town which was townsville! I tired to get a bus to Cairns but it was full!! So I decided to stay in s***ty Townsville for a night untill I could think of my next move!!! Well I couldn't go to Cairns or Airlie as I didn't think there was much point as the weather was going to be crap for the week!! I thought why not find work in fruit picking or farming since I am here! no such luck! so well I had no chose but to start work again on another farm!!!
So here I am in Yeppoon wwoofing (willing workers on organic farms) It's an alpaca/lama farm but it has camels, chooks, cats, dogs, etc!! It is great here! family are really nice and welcoming. THe animals are fantastic too!!! I have swam in a natural creek the other day, soo cool and fresh!!! Saw koals and kangaroos at the Rocky botanical Gardens and got really up and personal with the lorkees and different birds!! Had a fab day!! I am hoping the weather will get better here and I can go to the Keppel Islands and scuba dive as it is also the barrier reef here!! It will make up for my trip to the Whitsundays!!
So, that's all for now folks, I better go now as I don't want to spend too much time behind a computer when i't soo lovely and sunny outside!!
so you know the drill, catch ya all later!!
xxxlove cowgirl Mxxx
PS I will post new photos on my next visit to an internet cafe! It won't be long I promise! Great pics are awaiting you!!!
