So Sorry for taking so long to write my second blog!! I have been really busy trying to find work and the internet connection in my place is extremely slow!! LOL. Well nevermind, here it is anyways! I suppose I should start from the beginning really. Why did I come on this crazy journey to OZ you may ask??? Well, I was dead bored with my routine job back in not so sunny Swansea and I have always dreamt of coming to Australia for many years but always stopped myself from doing so. So on the 25th September,2008 I began my journey at London Heathrow. There I met my fellow Bunac (the travel programme I went with) travellers and got to know them really well before heading off to Hong Kong for three days. The flight to Hong Kong was very long, 13 hours in fact and by the 11th hour I was ready to jump off the plane LOL!! However, I managed to get some sleep and I must have watched over 5 films in total, I am a film critic now ahhah!!!! The first thing that struck me about Hong Kong was the tall buildings, the continous dark clouds over the city and the busy street life. I was very impressed by the chinese food and the hospitality of the people. It was also interesting to see that all the signs where both in English and Chinese. I saw most of the famous sights: fish market, Temples, etc. Although I am glad I have had the opportunity to go to Hong Kong, I don't think it made such an impressiono on me as to go return there again. On the 28th September, 2008 we made our way to the final destination: SYDNEY!!! Yippy!! The flight there was really bad, I didn't get any sleep so I was totally exhausted by the time arrived in Sydney. To make matters worse, the weather was not nice when we arrived LOL! I was hoping for a sunny reception!! I even got a cold the first few days, fantastic NOT!!
So we got there and went straight to our hostel which was rather nice I must say! I have only once before stayed in hostel, so I am new to this hostel business. The exchange programme (IEP) in Sydney took us through all the information about life in Sydney the following day. From that day on, things were rather tough I must say!! Firstly I had to move hostels and share a room with 8 people, NEVER AGAIN!!! It was soo stuffy and it was rather uncomfortable for me as I am used to my own space. But hey this is part of travelling!! and I took it on the chin, had a laugh really!!! So the next hurdle was finding a permanent place to live! boy what a hassle that was!! I searched and searched, saw some dodgy looking places and saw people living on top of each other!! some had the living room as thier bedrooms, in some places there were about 10 people living in one appartment!! I have never seen anything like it in my life!!! By now I was getting frustrated and tired of looking! Then the clouds lifted and I found a perfect pad. A nice room in a shared house in the Surry Hills (apparently posh area). I have my own room, fridge, TV and balcony, what more could you ask for ey!!! I am very happy here and I am enjoying my space hahah!!! So, I am on a winning streek you may think! NOPE!! next big hurdle! GETTING A JOB to pay the rent lol!! That's been the hardest, since I am still on the case. I have managed to get two hours during the week, coaching sports to primary kids but I do need some more hours if I am to break even with rent and general expenses. However, things are looking more promising than they have been. I have applied for several things and I am meeting this fella on Monday, hopefuly he will give me a job in his restaurant!! I will use my latin womanly talent hahah!!!!! On the social front,I have been very luck. I have met some great people and enjoy chilling out with them.
My plan is to stay in Sydney till New Year then go to Tasmania for two weeks. I fancy the change of scenery. I like Sydney but I am not much of a city person, I prefer nature, animals and landscape. I think it would be a great contrast to go to Tas. There I hope to do what's called WWOOFING. Yea I know sounds odd! it's all legal don't worry hahah!! It's where travellers work on people's farms and they are accommodated and fed for free. Hey if it saves me money, Why not? I think this type of experience would be cool and I would get to live the REAL OZ life. Anyways, that's a long way ahead. I am just focusing on having a good time here. So on that part< I leave you my friends. I hope you have liked reading my blog and I will keep you posted on my news here. I will try not to make it too long before I write next time but hey what can I say: people to see, places to visit hahaha!!xxxxx
