Mel's Overseas Trip
Hi All,
Wel we have finally come to the end of our 2 week Mexico adventure and it has been great. The diversity of this country is unreal, you can go from the east side on the carribean beaches through the center in the jungle to Mexico city and it is all so different.
Mexico City is not as bad as it has been made out to be. Yes there is protestors in tents in the streets, however they are not aggressive, but is amazing how passionate these people are about there politics, even though the votes have been counted and all is said and done they are still wanting to have there say.
On our first day in Mexico city after a crazy taxi ride from the bus terminal to the hotel, we went to the Museum of Anthropology. This was good because it put all the ruin sites that we had seen in perspective and we could understand and relate to what we were seeing alot better.
The next day we went on a guided tour to the Teotihuacan Ruins, these ruins are very important as they are the oldest in history. The ruins comprise of the famous temples of the moon and sun, which we climb all 255 steps to the top. We stopped off at a tequila local farm in the morning and were forced....... to drink tequila.... it is the best in Mexico how could we say NO. We learnt all about how it is made from the cactus plant and saw locals weaving tableclothes made from the cactus leaves, nothing is wasted. We then went to the Zocolo Plaza to see the huge Mexican Flag, which seems very out of proportion in the plaza due to it's enormous size.
That night we went for dinner near the Mariaches Plaza, this is where the Mariaches originated from. They were everywhere in there tight embroided pants playing to anyone they could serenade. We were all there watching them quietly when all the locals started running from the plaza, there was smoke bellowing from an underground carpark that we were standing on, Lucy and I ran to ( when in Mexico, do as the locals do.... seista at noon....... drink Tequila in the morning..... and run when need be from danger. It turned out there was a car on fire under the carpark, so that was the end of the eventful night.
This morning I went with some girls from our group to the San Angel market, a more upmarket part of town and very lovely market, unfortunetly I didn't buy anything.
Now getting ready to fly early morning to Miami.
Take Care
Love Mel xoxox
