Wow what a couple of days we have had. We finally arrived in Beijing yesterday only to find out that our luggage was still in Ghuangzou on the other side of China. Luckily we received our luggage at the hotel by the end of the day.
After checking in to the hotel we went straight to the Pearl Markets which was everything I expected and Maddie loved it. you have to haggle for everything but it certainly was an experience.
We went to Wangfujing st for dinner and to see the lights and the locals which was also a bit of a culture shock but still lots of fun.
Today we had our tour guide Lilly and she was fabulous. Our first stop was Tiannemen Square which is absolutely huge and can hold half a million people at the one time. We then made our way to the forbidden city which I loved. The stories lilly told us about the emperors would put any modern drama to shame. It was amazing to see 600 year old buildings as we obviously do not have anything like that in Australia.
It was by then lunch time and Lilly took us to an amazing Chinese restaurant where you have to cook your own Chinese hot pot in your own pot of boiling soup in front of you, even Maddie enjoyed her lunch and it certainly was an experience and the food was yummy.
Next we went to the Temple of Heaven which is huge. We even saw the remains of all the past emperors (in canister like objects). The place is just so opulent and huge just for one person to worship only twice a year!
We also saw a line of people which must have been over a kilometer long of Chinese people to see the actual preserved remains of Chairman Mao in a glass coffin. He is absolutely worshipped over here.
Well that was our day and tomorrow we are again going touring with Lilly.
Will catch up soon
