Slept off the jet lag at phil's then hit the gym and felt normal again before a taxi across town to the Bangkok centre hotel. A 30 minute journey cost £1.20 English money. Pleasantly surprised by the hotel which was quite posh and I met my roommate heather from Canada. It was time for a meeting with our group leader ken and we all introduced ourselves. There's about 14 of us in all from places including Scotland, Norway, Nottingham, Canada, London. Ken the leader was seeing an English girl in Newcastle for a while so keeps on asking me about places he remembers. We headed out to Ko sang road where all the backpackers stay and for dinner and I took phil's advice and ordered two mains - again with a beer just 4pounds. We headed for a few beers..and the night turned raucous. I was trying to be well behaved but then met a kindred spirit in Laura and started drinking shots with Bruce and Brad two Baywatch Canadians we met. Roll on a few hours and I'm ashamed to say the night ended in mccyd's.
Day 3
Not a good start. Slept in. Feeling terrible. We walked around china town which was crazy - you can buy anything and we walked past shop after shop selling dried fish which didn't do much for the hangover. Think it's some weird kind of herbal medicine. We then boarded a fast boat to the wat po temple where we saw the reclining Buddha. Women have to cover up so I wrapped my scarf around my legs and wore a cotton shirt. Spent an hour or so there and saw Buddha after Buddha. Then it was a crazy tuc tuc ride back to the hotel. The roads and drivers are mental in Bangkok. We nearly died at least three times as the driver attempted to weave in and out of traffic. Back at the hotel there was a couple of hours to kill so I decided to head for a massage along the road. 200 baht for 1 hour = around 4quid I was told to get changed into some cotton pyjamas then the man (in his 60's) got started. It was quite intense!!! And a bit weird when he was pummelling my butt cheeks. Lets just say I feel a bit more flexible afterwards. We were meeting at 5 ready for the overnight train to Chiang Mai.
