Luckily I made some friends since my last update and have been very busy since then! I started my dive course yesterday and I am doing it with 4 other girls and our instuctor is called nige and he is mad! The wierdest thing ever happened... we were all introducing ourselves and stuff, and one of the girls was like "I come from St. Albans, if you know it?" and I was like "WHAT, noway! me too!" and it turns out she went to townsend and went to primary school with becky McClint! it is such a small world!
so my course has been a lot of classroom work, and we spent most of yesterday in the classroom watching videos and learning stuff. You would think that learning to dive is just like putting on a thing and breasthing... its not! its a hella lot more complicated! We have to learn about nitrogen and decompressiona dn stuff. apparently if you go down too deep you have too much nitrogen in your btrain and you go all spaz! like you cant add up 2 and 2! I'lllet you know if I am affected! After the classroom session we all went to the beanbag bar and had a chat and there was a beach bbq and I got some chicken and then went to bed. This morning I got up and met Kate (the girl from St. A) and Ali, this girl from canada that is really nice, and we had breakfast and then went to the classroom for another morning of tests and stuff. then we went to the pool and did our first dive. it was scary! the dive gear is like heavier than the heaviest backpack ever! and its a lot harder to breathe underwater than you would think! we did a lot of skill practise like taking off our masks under water and using other peoples air, and we learnt how to float... it harder than you would think! most of the time you either sink to the bottom or float on top, its really hard to stay in the middle, but whern you get it it is really good! feels like you are flying! So yeah, in total we stayed in the pool for about 5 hours, and it was hell! by the end of it my whole body was a big prune! and my lips hurt from the breathing stuff, and my neck was chafing on the wetsuit! but it was also pretty cool, and tomorrow we are going in the sea for the first time! Im very nervous!
After we had been in the pool I went for dinner with Kate and Ali and then me and Kate went and explored the beach trying to find this strip of beach which is meant to be really good and have loads of stuff on it, but we couldnt find it and then we found this amazing little shop instead and spent ages lookign in it. it had thousands of used book in like every language and loads of other random things, it felt like a magic shop! like really quaint! I am going back tomorrow becuase the guy said I could swap some of my stuff for stuff in the shop rather than pay!
So all in all, I'm having a lot of fun! the girsl on my course are nice, but I'm worried that they will all leave after the course (2 more days) and I weill be alone again! thats one bad thing about this travelling malarky! you make friends, but they are only there for a few days or a week then either they go someowhere else or I do! I'm tryiong to persuade Kate to do the advanced course with me! or maybe I will leave the island earlier than planner and go to some more exciting places. A couple of people from the wildlife centre are coming here on the 25th so maybe I will meet them. we will see! but at the moment I am happy!
wish me luck diving in the sea!
