A very uneventful day comprised of travelling from Chiang Mai to Bangkok (aka the city of plum cake according to Poppy) via 'special fast train'.
The train was not special or fast. It was average with some very big fans and hidden air con and my bum was very sore after the 12hour ride.
The meals were a little odd - we got a curry at 11am and then nothing else so poor Poppy who couldn't eat the meat laden curry was starving by the time we got to Cockers. Not only was she starving but was also covered in orange juice. She had placed her drink on the fold out tray in front of her when the gentleman sitting in this seat decided to fling his chair back, therefore covering poor Pops in juice.
Apart from that very uneventful. The scenery was interesting but for about the first hour. After that pretty samey and I was perfectly happy to get into my new Cee Lo Green album.
On arrival into Bangkok, if I am honest, Poppy and I were pretty terrified and confused. We had no idea which way was out, we couldn't find anyone to help us, we managed to print out a map of the guesthouse we had booked but the taxi driver had no idea how to read a map so the situation was pretty dire initially. After a lot of gesturing and repetition we finally and surprisingly found ourselves exactly where we were supposed to be - Fortville Guesthouse near Koh San Road. A 'fort style' guesthouse with low beds, minimalist decor and super friendly staff. Nothing feels better than getting into a comfy and clean bed after a warm shower and late night snack. It makes it easier to forget a bit of a s***ty journey.
