Macklen's Euro Trip
Hello everyone! Today is my first day in Europe!!! I arrived in London airport early morning with little to no sleep from the flight and made my way through a train to the main city. After asking a few people for directions I made my way to my hostel named Dover Castle Hostel and Bar...only a few minutes walk from the train station.
On my way I was almost ran over once because drivers here are in an insane rush...and I kind of forgot about how they drive on the other side of the road. My two travel partners, Patrick and Meghan arrived here a couple of days ago so I found them in their hostel room, we changed rooms and got all settled in. There are 11 beds in the room, and then batromms, showers and sinks are on each floor. After I had a semi-warm shower, we headed out into the city and did some great tourist things. We saw Big Ben, Westmister Abbey, Buckinham Palace, London Bridge, did all sorts of people-watching. Lunch was at a cute little cafe where I had a bit of sushi while we all used a computer for internet. It was £1 per hour...so about $2 an hour. Not bad...that's about normal here in expensive London. We sat in a beautiful city-central park and had an ice cream with a "flake" in it - this is a soft, twisted chocolate stick, basically.
Today I was reminded of New York City, minus the street smell, loud noise, and great hot dogs (in NYC).
I'm excited to move on tomorrow morning. We are leaving through the London Tunnel at 7:30am tomorrow, so I'm getting to bed early...today was a long day on no sleep and w/ jet lag.
I hope everyone is going well! Love and miss you!!!
