I have been meaning to start this blog for about a week now, but everytime I sit down to write I end up nodding off for an hour. Let me sum up my flight here in one word:Eventful. The flight itself from New York to Port of Spain Trinidad was lovely! Immigration in Trinidad, however, is a different story. Since I was to be traveling on a Sail boat I needed special papers from the Captain claiming me as crew, sadly I had not realized this small tid bit of information. Immigration had me wait for two hours while they contacted the Captain to receive confirmation. Eventually my entrance into Trinidad was approved and I was able to continue through to Baggage. The Drive from Port Of Spain to Chagaruamas is a complete blur, all I recall is panicking since I was not accustomed to driving on the opposite side of the road. When I reached the boat yard I was shocked to see that the boat I would be spending the next three months of my life, with three other people, was only forty-two feet! At that moment I thought "I must be crazy to leave my social life to sail on this thing". In these past couple days I have learned to love "Revery" and trust her with my life since virtually my life is very much in her hands.
This week my days consist of waking up at 7am for the boaters network broadcast (a network that brings boaters together where they can talk about local events, weather, things for sale/swap, and who is leaving port), breakfast, boat work, lunch, boat work, dinner and for desert: more boat work! As an eighteen year old girl currently in my final year of High School (my high school gave me three months off to travel) working from sun up to sun down is not what I am used to! I have never been so tired in my life but we have a deadline to get Revery in tip top shape before we shove off on our overnight voyage to Grenada!
