The last couple of days have been pretty cool. Everything kicked off on Monday afternoon with a walk to the botanical gardens (bits I didn't see when I explored by myself on Sunday). We found some Cockatoo's, but couldn't coax them down to feed them on the cheap stale bread that we had on hand (they have high standards).
After walking up and around the Opera House we went jet boating, which is immense fun. We got taken out further round the harbour and got some pretty rad views of the city and Harbour Bridge, definitely worth doing again, but make sure to choose a hot day (the guy driving the boat does his best to drench you - part of the fun). After chilling back at the hostel there was dinner put on for us next door at this place called Scary Canary. It's a little bar/club place that serves food, I think it's a bit of a hole, but they do a good $10 steak (though a decent wine is pricey… $8.50).
Tuesday - has been pretty awesome. Spent the morning setting up bank accounts and doing all that "boring" stuff that needs to be gotten out of the way so that I can work in Oz. After that the group walked down to Darling Harbour. It's a great place on a nice day with some great looking bars and restaurants around the Harbour. They're apparently pricey, but I want to try at least one of them out. There is a pretty cool bar that we ate at called the Pontoon Bar. They do, hands down, the best BLT I've ever had, definitely recommend that place.
After lunch we headed to the Aquarium which is pretty cool, found Crush, Dori and of course Nemo. I don't know if it's as good as the Sea Life in Birmingham (or even London, they have Penguins), that's a pretty awesome place (just don't drive there), but it was still a great day out.
I decided to spend Tuesday evening walking up to Sydney Harbour Bridge. I really wanted a decent place to catch the sunset, but the clouds were there to ruin the party. None the less, I managed to get some awesome shots of the Harbour Bridge, Opera House & the Sydney CBD district as night fell and the lights came out.
At 8pm we went out into Kings Cross which is known as Sydney's red light district. Despite that knowledge, it doesn't honesty look too shabby, not as nice as the main shopping area in and around George Street, but not what I'd perceive as a "Red Light" district. The club there looked pretty swish for a backpackers place, but was a bit of a let down. They put a band on, but cut their hour long set to 15mins. I didn't think they were too bad, but then again they had a member who only played the Triangle, enough said.
It wasn't the best night out after a couple of b****y events, but roll on the Zoo tomorrow.
