Chris n' Mel in Thailand
So here we are, sitting in an internet cafe waiting for the moment when we have to begin the long and arduous journey back home to blighty, but first il update you on our last few days in Thailand.
Firstly i have to mention the diving, which was very good, some of the highlights being
1 - saw a shark and actually chased it
2 - Went Cave diving (sort of) - a very cool small cave where we saw a couple of moray's and a gargantuan trigger fish - still waiting for my first trigger fish fight though..someday!
3 - Diving with Melanie for the first time - on her first day we had a top dive with just the two of us and the dive master, and we went through some swimthroughs and saw a whole bucket load of fish.
4 - Getting to a very nice reef dive and being told by the dive master that we could go off on our own and he would just follow us. This was especially good as i was leading and it was almost like being on my own in the water going over, around and below coral formations spotting the odd trigger fish, blue spotted rays, Groupers, Trevalys, Morays etc etc.. not being a dive master i dont know many of the names.. but there were lots of multi coloured fish..
5 - One downfall to diving though is that i still seem to guzzle air at a rate which is a little disturbing, i blame the asthma...
Anyway once we had finished our diving we had a bit of a chilled out day, went into Mae Haad for a while and then as we were tired headed back to the hotel... once we got back we went for what we thought was gonna be a quick beer at the rooftop bar on the beach near the hotel.. its called the rooftop bar but its actually on the beach, and very cool with some reggae/rap tunes blaring out into the night. So it started off a bit slow and the beer wasnt going down too well, both of us were knackered and the chilled out ambience wasnt helping us to keep awake either. so i did what i normally do when im flagging and ordered a rum, coke and red bull bucket as a last resort. Guess what - it worked soon we were playing with all the bars in house games and managing to turn them into drinking games.. see the photo of mel holding up the connect 4 chips after downing 10 seconds worth of v strong alcohol...
Soo about 1am we staggered down the beach to the hotel and collapsed onto the beds (thank god we had already packed as we had to be up early the next day)
Woke up only slightly late the next day and said our goodbyes to my Dad and Rachael (for a few days at least)
and went off to catch the ferry to chumphon, where we would be getting our bus to bangkok. It was quite an easy ferry ride across as we were sat outside and as we were both quite tired we both dozed for most of the way.. once we got to Chumphon it was via a river that went throgh the town and there were hundreds of fishing boats and shanty huts everywhere.. it was very cool
As soon as the boat pulled up the heavans opened and it started peeing it down, but thankfully the bus was right there so we didnt get too wet. We were in a luxury coach and were quite impressed with it especially as there were to be dvds playing for the duration of the journey, except the tallest man on the coach happened to be sat on the front row of seats so it made viewing the tv a bit tricky, the first film they played was v for vendetta which i have already seen and as i didnt think it was much kop the first time round thought id give it a miss, sentiments echoed by a few of the people on the bus by the time it finished.. 2 girls behind us exclaiming at one point "what in the love of god is going on" my thoughts exactly!
Next they played a really bad english film, but the dvd player had a spaz attack and decided to self destruct, i think it knew what crap was being played and spared us the torture of having to go through any more tripe...
This did lead to a quandry though as i had already read my book and with 7 hours left till we arrived in Bangkok i was gonna be bored, which i was.. even tried Melanies puzzle book but after 10 min my head started to hurt and threw it away in disgust... Not much happened on the rest of the journey except we scammed a restaurant into giving us 2 meals for one, by accident of course... and we had an entertaining time listening to the 2 young english girls b**** about just about everyone from their home town - i think they were from oxford, and were quite the daddy's girls...Got to Bangkok only 10 min after the time we were scheduled to arrive - miracle, and made our way to Sawasdee Bungalampoo to see if we could get a room.. which we did, and the staff remembered us too!!
We had come back here not only for the location which was right in the middle of Khao San road but because we wanted to get some suits from the owner of the place who had put his sales pitch to us all those weeks ago when we were here before, and it obviously worked cos here we were. Unfortunately we couldnt find him though and decided to have alook around on our own. Weren't too impressed with the standards of some of the other places and in the end decided to give the suits a miss, at least we thought we had!!!
So on our first full day back in Khao San road we decided to devote it entirely to shopping.. We needed to not only by presents but to stock up on our own wardrobes... A mammoth 7 hours oif shopping, intermingled with 1 or 2 beers and some food we flopped back in the room amongst the piles of stuff and tried to decide what we could fit into our bags before we had to start throwing things away.. That night we went out for a few drinks and a a couple of beers, but mel wasnt feeling great so we decided to go to a bar where we knew they would be playing some live music and chill before we went to bed.. The guy singing was amazing and we had heard him the last time we were here so we requested a particular favourite of ours "redemption song" by Bob Marley and settled in to listen.. only to be interuppted by an Aussie guy and a Scottish girl who combined were possibly te loudest people we have ever met and so in the words of Mel "Exit stage left" we got the hell out of dodge and headed home.
Then the next day we got up and after some last minute shopping went to find our hotel my mate Andy had booked for us for the last few days of the holiday.. cheers mate it was awesome, and only 30 pounds a night - bargain!
That night Dad and Rachael made an appearance once again and regaled us with tales of their last few days on Koh Tao where they had some fun on motorbikes and apparently almost died a few times... especially when Rachael drove.. he he sorry! jokin of course..
That night Dad decided he wanted to visit a tailor as he was thinking about getting a suit so Mel and I decided to tag along, had a look at the one that had been recomended but it was quite expensive and the staff were not very good, so we went into one called Manhatten and it had a better feel to the place so after a look around Mel and I decided to go for it and chose some material and the style of the suit we wanted, and boom we were soon to be the owners of 2 tailor made suits made from the finest cashmere wool.. of course we had to get measured up and we went for a fitting the next day before we actually got them.
The next day we took Dad and Rachael to our mecca (Khao San road) and then Mel and I went for a few beers to remenice about our time here, including our top 5 moments, of which I have no doubt that you will be hearing in person soon enough...That night Dad and Rachael left to go home and Mel and I stayed in as we too were going home the next day.. so that brings me to here where we have just been to Hard Rock Cafe and am now in a very nice internet/coffee cafe.
Soon we have to go to the airport and then we will be home soon.
So we will see you all soON
Chris and Mel Out!!!
