Chris n' Mel in Thailand
Hi All
So we have been in Ao Nang for a few days now and have had a really good time, we left Krabi and got a Sangtheuw to Ao Nang and then hiked to the hostel in the baking heat, arrived and checked in to what can only be described as luxury, this was mainly due to the air con which rocks.... also we have the best view from our veranda which alt hough I have not got a pic of yet im sure we will soon.... after a brief rest and shower we headed out for some lunch, ate that and because it was sooo nice decided to head down to the beach. we sunbathed for a while and then went out where Mel had a fish that was really really good, although she did overestimate the amount of chillies that one person could put onto a small spoon full of fish and almost exploded, then we went out for a few beers and played connect four in a cool bar where they played some legendary music. Decided to head back about 11pm until we came upon a mini bradshawgate that was full of tiny little thai bars that all consisted of some pool tables and a bar in each, picked an empty one got ourselves a whisky bucket and started to play some pool.... soon after some lads from Manchester came in and we had a laugh with them and played till we couldnt see no more, so off we went while the lads went down to the party on the beach.
The next day we had a much deserved lie in and mooched around all day intermingled with more shopping (why wash stuff when you can buy things so cheap ) then we went down to the beach and played bat and ball for a bit (we will be awesome by the time we come back - promise) before i went off and played with the many crabs that were left from the change in tide, also found loads of shells for Mel to appreciate.
Soo it got to day 3 and we thought we better do something and decided to go to the famous climbing and beach mecca of railay beach... strolled down the promenade where I had to actually say yes to one of the tuk tuk drivers for once - which went against all my instincts as we needed a lift to the docks... then we met a nice swiss couple who we chatted with whilst on the way in our snazzy longtail boat. Then once we arrived via some special views of the limestone cliffs and after our boat man tried to rip us off ( luckily we stood firm and eventually he gave up) we ended up ... well nowhere! mmm so off the 4 of us went wandering around trying to find a beach, any beach as it was sweltering, but no! as the further we went we realised that the directions we had been given were shoddy to say the least and ended up somewhere that was not a sandy beach, but merely a dead end, then we looked some more untill we found a sign saying West Railay beach 150m - hurrah so off we went via a huge building site... considering some people pay 28000 bhat compared to our 400 a night a would not be happy if this was my walk to the main beach... still excited and in need of a drink by this point we arrived at the beach only to find there wasnt one, I guess the tide must have been especially high that day as there was literally no beach just a mound of driftwood leading to the fence where the resort grounds started... mmm not happy, then it started to rain...... heavilly!!!!
So we then split off from the swiss couple as they were convinced that there was more to Railay and by this time Mel and I wanted t go back as we wanted to go somewhere for a drink that didnt cost us 240 bhat for a beer.. e.g. too much! but we couldnt leave untill the rain died down so got ourselves a small beer and waited till we could leave.. A fun journey home on the longtail , except for the fact that Mel chipped her tooth on the way, not a major injury though as you can barely see it and off we went... As it started to rain again we popped into o'malleys for a few pints and some food before coming back to the hostel to get changed ready for tonight....
Off island hopping tomorrow
