Mike: Got up at 3am this morning to get up and get out. Only just arrived now at about 1:45am BST. Nearly 24hours after we left. After waving an emotional cherrio to both families we got onto our Iberia flight. Once boarded we were informed of nearly an hours delay. Not the best start, but hey, we are on our way. A smooth change over in Madrid lead us onto our next flight and the big leg of our journey. The main language of the flight was Spanish so the perfect opportunity for me to try out my semi-practiced Spanish skills. I am quickly met with a confused sounding flight attendant and the response "que?". Another good start. The food is passable as some kind of weird cheesy cottage pie, minus the potato. On the plus side the films are good. Alicia happily chuckles along to "we bought a zoo", I try some more Spanish. Unfortunately Alicia is starting to feel ill, she has a cold and a headache. Bad times. The films move on to "The muppets" and "Sherlock Holmes 2" and more food. Looking out the window all you can see is a sea of green (the amazon) which seems to last for ever, looks amazing, can't wait to get involved with that. After what seems like forever the flight is nearly over and 16 hours 15 minutes into our 16 hours 30 minute flight Alicia is ill. Very bad times. But still, nearly there. Once landed everything goes smoothly and we jump in the taxi on the craziest road I have ever been on (not Alicia, apparently india is worse). Cars run red lights, cut either other up, pull out and generally beep constantly. But get to the hostel in one piece. Now just sat here, in our room - which is both single glazed, over looking one of the busiest roads in Lima and adjoining the shared kitchen and with dubious looking sheets - still this is the start of our year, and after all that planning in travelling, I can't wait to get stuck in.

Mum & Dad Glad to hear you arrived safely. Sorry to hear Alicia was poorly, probably a combination of everything but now its time to relax and enjoy. Not too sure what to make of your view - definately seen better. I hope your hostel near the beach has a prettier outlook.
