George Harrison had a house along this road. He liked the isolation. Bet he didn't drive, most probably got helicoptered in, or private flight. Reached Hana, a sleepy little town, population 700! Amazing that people live in such remote areas. But the peace and tranquility must be amazing! Drove on to the Ohe'o Gulch, the Seven Sacred Pools, though there are actually dozens of pools and a multitude of waterfalls. Walked down to the ocean at Kuloa Point to watch...

Had a totally lazy day, after doing a bit of shopping and having a late breakfast, we drove up the coast to Kaanapali and sat on beach looking out on two of the smaller islands. Stayed still sunset, which was pretty impressive. Plan to drive the road to Hana tomorrow. Got to be on our way by 7.30am!

Our last day on Big Island. August and Daiva were great hosts. They are both Lithuanian. Daiva has only been on the island for six years. She seems to miss home a lot, particularly the winters. There's something to be said for seasons. Made an early start so we could explore the north of the island. The scenery changes dramatically. Had another relaxing day. Went to "Two Step" beach. So named because there are two steps of volcanic rock to get into the water, then you are immediately into an amazing coral reef with lots of colourful fish swimming around. It was amazing! You felt quite safe two because you didn't have to swim far from the shore. The dolphins were out playing too. About fifty of them, jumping out of the water and twisting round. Had a lazy day today. Sat and chatted to August and Daiva, our hosts. August had lots to show us and tell us about the island. He pointed out all good beaches and places of interest. Told us about the history of the island, both ancient and modern. Sorry we've only got a couple of days on this side of the island. There seems lots to do and see.
