The Peak, Hong Kong
Hi and welcome to my first blog and the planning of my first holiday to Hong Kong.
I'm off to Hong Kong in late September, back in October for my horrible exams (yuck!) and then another 2 week stay in February for my birthday and to join the festialities for the Chinese New Year. After that, I'm off to Beijing at the end of April as a treat for completing my exams, although I won't know until a few days before whether it is as a treat or as a consolation prize!
At this point I'm starting to feel nervous. I'm going to a strange country all on my own in only a few short weeks. I'm either incrediably brave or incrediably stupid! My family and friends say they know what catagory they would put me in!
So I'm looking through all the tour guides, the Lonely Planet guidebooks and using the web continously to find the best things to see, the best places to go and what trips there are to do. Although the butterflies in my stomach are fluttering about, I'm feeling quite excited about this trip. I've even started learning both Mandarin and Cantonese, even though I should be doing Latin and Greek!
Should I be going on my own? Should I have booked a holiday package where you're in a group? Lots of these little questions keep on popping up. I've travelled on my own before to the States and various places in Europe but I've always had friends waiting for me at the other end. This will be the first trip I've gone on alone. It's very disconcerting. I'm 23 years old and a woman. Everyone says I'm stupid (well I am blonde!)
So, back to the Lonely Planet guide before getting back to the study texts. I know which one I'd prefer to read!
