I arrived at Boston on the 6th sept and have arranged to staying 2 night. I travelled on the greyhound, as I have a 60 day unlimited pass which allows to get on/off the greyhound and other sister companies, across north america and canada. The journey was not as bad as people have made out. Yes it is the travel of the lower classes, but ive not met any recently released convicts, as I was lead to believe that usa judical service gave recently released convicts a little money and a ticket on the greyhound. Its a bit of a shame as I like a bit of rough (only joking mum & dad).
As for Boston, it is a lovely city, so very different to New York, Boston is steeped in history and proud of it. The style of the buildings and the pace of life is so different, everything is smaller, much more low key. The hostel I am staying at is typical of boston, a large wooden house similar to the house out of the wizard of oz, looks like at any moment it will be blown away, but its charming in it own way. Feels like im staying in some long lost family members house but im enjoying my stay.
And best of all, right next door to the hostel is a social club which sells REALLY cheap booze. Compared to the new york prices, $6-10 (4-8 pound) a pint, it is only $1.65 (90pence) a pint, so I dont mind giving a tip, making a pint only about 1.25 sterling-Bargain!!!
Boston has a lot to offer, but unfortunately owing to limited time and money and owing to the fact that the hostel was quite a way out of boston city, I only did the tourist thing and took a duck tour, which is a guided tour bus that traveling on the road and the water (I was hoping it would fly like to one in chitty chitty bang bang-that would have been really cool). As you can probably tell from the last comment, I just come back from the cheap boozer so I am 'slightly' worse for wear. Im keen on one of the Irish lads staying here, so watch this space.......
Anyway best go as have to pack for next stop-Across the Canadian border to Montreal. Lets see what Montreal has to offer......
