Shaking The Tree 2005
Sydney Sunshine and Showers
Well my brief stay in Sydney is at an end and I head back up to Brisbane today.
Caroline has left for Hong Kong and it seems strangely quiet without her.
Sydney never ceases to amaze me, and everytime you come here and stay somewhere different you see a different side of this beautiful city. Even with showers and gale force winds it is not hard to see why this city is voted one of the most desirable in the world.
The harbour, the bridge and the Opera House probably one of the most recognisable city scapes in the world. Can you imagine commuting to work every day on a ferry that takes you past the sights tourists travel miles to see.I am sure city siders probably become immune to it's beauty but on a clear day it must still take your breath away...
I have walked and walked in the last 2 days and the blisters have got worse as a result. By the way the blisters were the reasons why I had to resort to sandal and socks.... This was a one off and was not a fashion statement ! Honest....
The hostel here is to be recommended. Wake Up ! Sydney Central. Opposite the railway station it is ideally placed to explore with all the buses stopping outside. It is new and each floor decorated in a different colour so that drunk backpackers can remember where they were sleeping ! Whilst Caroline and I were here we shared a twin which was actually and double bed with a single bunk above it. As it was Cas turn to get the double I had to climb up the bunk step ladder and get my booty in to the top bunk... Not an elegant or pretty sight I can tell you. Once I was up in the bunk only a full bladder would get me back down again....
The bar is cool and the 2 for 1 house wine vouchers came in handy !
The natives are certainly friendly here and one thing about staying in a hostel on your own is you are never on your own for long. Usually you get talking to someone at some point... But most are so young ! The most unusual request was from a young lad from up North who wanted me to pop his earring back in for him, he had only had it pierced the day before ! I think the vast amount of alcohol he had consumed had numbed the pain !
So I am heading back up to Brisbane and looking forward to some warmth and sunshine. I am also looking forward to spending some time with Gary and Shiela and the cats in their new house...
So I will see ewes all layter ! (Aussies for see you later)

PS Koala Facts
The female koala is only pregnant for 35 days
BUT The female koala does not have a birth canal and therefore the baby scratches its way out !
The word Koala come from the aboriginal for not wanting to drink out of a communal vessel. It was then used to describe the animal that never drinks and only gets its water from leaves..
