Trip To Europe & UK
Dumbarton Castle - has the most spectacular views over the Clyde River. Even the miserable day couldn't detract from the view.
History of the castle stretches back 1500 years, to when it was known as Alt Clut, 'Rock of the Clyde'. This has served as the centre of the British kingdom of Strathclyde, a medieval frontier post as well as the occasional royal residence.
Mary Queen of Scots was sent here in 1548 by her mother for protection. After 6 months, four French galleys sailed into the Clyde and took her to France, where she would marry the French King Francois II.
